This works well in the company
There is little to none of micro management (again depending on the department). People are highly proactive and efficient despite working 80%-90% remote. The project time line/communications move rather in the glacial pace. I actually was in stress having to push somebody to get a prompt response.
This could be improved
The management style depends on the department. The one I worked for (CXSD) doesn't value career building so much. The politics are somehow stronger and many people are always at risk to be replaced. New joiners are hired mostly as contractors these days. In reality, working here doesn't make you feel career stable like the company's image. Constant internal reorganisations (kinda messy). Things have changed a lot after COVID. It used to be nice before. Not a place for building up your work experience, in my opinion. Be ready to look for a new job after 2-3 years if you consider woking with them. There are standards and guidelines, but the company is so big as well as the amount of information that not everyone follows those protocols.

- Everyone deserves a great leader and there is definitely need to improve leadership . So many are there for a long time and not willing to adapt to new ways of working or staying up to date with new innovations and giving empowerment to their teams. Especially HR is the worst in this ...it is 10 years behind the industry norms. The new CEO should make tough decisions and bring the best leaders and cultivate the innovation culture back again.

- Production under high pressure is the only goal of the new Roche agenda
This could be improved
- Unfair job/duty sharing! - Nepotism - Germans and French among themselves (groupings) - Women are preferred in all positions, even without having experience - Newcomers are paid very poorly - Promotion opportunities only for personnel with doctoral degrees - No "work-life" balance - Pressure from new, inexperienced managers who have little technical knowledge - HR only sticks to executives - Canteen food quality poor and very expensive

Company offers many interesting benefits. It offers also a lot of freedom for self development which I think is extremely unique and I miss this a lot.

Worked in molecular diagnostics, system development department. This department is too technical. If you are used to worked in an open and agile style, this department might be not for you.

Roche is one of the largest investors in research and development worldwide. In Switzerland alone, Roche spent 2.4 billion Swiss francs last year. Last year Roche employed some 13,000 people in Switzerland from over 100 nations. This makes Switzerland one of the three largest Roche sites in the world - alongside the USA and Germany.

The success of a company depends to a large extent on the qualifications and leadership qualities of its superiors. Overbearing superiors are reluctant to accept feedback. Poor managers keep their employees small and do not give them any freedom to make decisions. Excessive control is a sign of insufficient leadership qualities. Under an arrogant superior, teams develop far below their potential, since coaching or mentoring is not provided for in such a management style. Unfortunately, HR is always on the side of superiors in case of disagreements, which means that employees have little confidence in HR.

Roche is not fair to employees. They hire internal employees and then fire them for convenience after the work is done. The AVR is basically promoting Roche's interests and not the employees. Info for Rotkreuz.

Many cross-border commuters enable their relatives to take a job in the company without being qualified for it. Many "simple" jobs are given to the nearby border area, although these can be covered within the country. Swiss people or people living in Switzerland are excluded. Managers who have already spoiled the working environment for employees in other companies are now being hired by Roche and are destroying even the few jobs here.

I don't know what works well since for as long as there are other options I have decided not to go to Roche. My experience with this interview was the worst in my professional career.
This could be improved
I was invited for an interview about 4 weeks after I submitted my application in their online portal Workday. Due to Covid-19, the interview was conducted via Google Meet. The hiring manager turned up wearing a shabby looking polo shirt and his colleague in t-shirt. Worse, the hiring manager deactivated both audio and video and left the screen three times during the interview and while I was speaking. Then they ask several questions about my professional background and experience in which the answers were clearly in the CV. But the worst of it all was to ask me, how long is my notice period when perusing my CV would have revealed that I have taken a break since end of 2019. They barely have read my CV! I have never felt so disrespected before that I withdrew all my running applications for Roche in Workday the same day after that interview. 2 weeks after, I receive an email from them saying that my profile would have been excellent if not for my lack of in-depth practical experience and knowledge of SAP. Well, SAP was never mentioned in the job description, least emphasised as a go-no go criterion. But it did not matter to me whatever their reasons were, because I have already withdrawn my application in Workday. Aside from being unprofessional and disrespectful, these people and whoever is in charge of HR were also not talking to each other. The entire hiring process in addition to being slow, was an embarrassing revelation.
