360 Labs Initiative at a Glance

The 360 Labs are a new capability that is currently being built up within the Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED ). The primary mission of this effort is to provide greater access and support for the use of cutting-edge biomedical research technologies by scientists across our discovery portfolio.

The 360 Labs will deliver core scientific technologies, expertise and enabling activities, as well as facilitate knowledge sharing in close collaboration with our therapeutic areas and functions. Job Mission and Impact

The Research Histopathology Core Technology Platform in the 360 Labs Initiative is seeking to add to its team an experienced, highly-motivated and collaborative histopathology scientist to provide histology services, with a focus on multiplexed IHC and IF assays. The successful candidate will have a strong background in developing, implementing and running (ultra-) high-multiplex immunostaining approaches end-to-end, and has worked with the latest technologies in the field. You will work as a part of a matrix team and collaborate closely with experts within and outside the 360 Labs Initiative to collaboratively advance exploratory research and early drug discovery programs, and participate in the implementation and growth of the Research Histopathology Platform within the pRED organization.

Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the planning design and execution of specialty histological workflows, with a focus on implementing and optimizing both routine, and custom multiplexed staining approaches, including immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), immunofluorescence (IF) and digital pathology techniques such as whole slide scanning as well as other imaging technologies.

  • Ensure the continued production, and reliability of high-quality research data by performing regular quality control and troubleshooting of histological instrumentation, and maintain accountability for the preparation of reports, presentation and discussion of data with key stakeholders.

  • Embrace a continuous learning mindset by actively engaging with the scientific literature to stay abreast of emergent technologies/approaches in the histopathology field.

Your Profile

  • A MS degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field, or a PhD degree with respectively 8 years or 5 years of professional experience focused on (ultra-) high-multiplexed tissue analysis either in an academic setting and / or the pharmaceutical industry / biotech sector.

  • Exceptional competency with the histological preparation of mammalian tissues, including fixation, embedding, sectioning, staining and image acquisition with respect to multiplexing workflows, with high theoretical and hands-on knowledge of chemical and biological staining techniques.

  • Extensive hands-on experience in implementing, optimizing and executing both routine and custom-designed assays with (ultra-) high-plex multiplexing devices, such as the Akoya Phenocycler or similar in a rigorous and reproducible manner..

  • Are resourceful and flexible in problem solving, have excellent organizational skills, and are able to work as agile matrix leads with a sense of urgency in a fair, open and collaborative manner, ensuring that everyone has the required information at all times;

  • Can think outside the box and work in diverse, multicultural, global teams, with a demonstrated ability to implement new ideas in fast-paced research environments

  • Bring excellent written communication and presentation skills with a high fluency in English.
