Position Summary
The Personalized Solutions team provides patient-specific devices to those with complex clinical cases, such as oncology cases, where no other device exists on the market to treat their condition. These are provided under the prescription of the overseeing physician in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations for single patient use. As a Precision Engineer on the Personalized Solutions team, you set up best in class manufacturing processes to enable the PSS business. You will deliver this in a timely manner either independently or as part of a team and you will provide technical support to other departments. You will be required to manage your case load under tight time constraints, and support process development for a wide variety of implant types to effectively clean and packaging the device and adhere to procedures set out by Quality and Regulatory Affairs. In some circumstances you may be required to work or travel outside of normal office hours.
What you will do:

Work with Engineering leaders to deliver business objectives across the Personalized Solutions team.

Development and implementation of appropriate supporting documentation, SOPs and process work instructions compliant with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
-
Leading technical improvements under the business’s Continuous Improvement Program (CIP).

Complete detailed First Article Inspection of products (Implants, Guides, Models & Instruments)

Routine inspection of vendor and internally manufactured implants for development or investigative purposes

Being able to generate CAD drawings and apply GD&T tolerancing principles to the ASME Y 14.5M 1994 (R 2004) Standard

Close collaboration with Design Department to facilitate in the design and Inspection of complex bespoke medical device components.

Work flexibly and efficiently as part of the manufacturing team and to support other team members as required, comply with all quality, health & safety and environmental rules and policies.

Increase productivity and reduce scrap through modern Inspection techniques & strategies.

Supporting and conducting engineering and metrology research including the identification, investigation and implementation of new advanced metrology and inspection systems and technologies

Completing MSA analyzing of inspection data, gage R&R results and inspection methods to establish optimum process parameters

Must be capable of spending long periods of time programming, debugging and validating complex inspection equipment.
Candidate requirements:
-
Experience working within a production environment inspecting components from both engineering drawings & 3D CAD models, for compliance to the relevant drawing tolerances as applicable.

Toolmaking experience desirable

Formal Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering qualification or time-served apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline (or equivalent).

Be able to programme, set and operate different inspection machines (example CMM).

Demonstrable experience in the use of offline 3D inspection programming (MCOSMOS or equivalent).

Demonstrate a sound knowledge of work holding, probing, quality awareness and time management.

Maintain good housekeeping and a safe working environment for self and others.

Be able to work independently under pressure and within a team environment as well.

Must have excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.

PC literate, with knowledge of MS Windows applications (Excel & Word)

To have a flexible, can-do approach, be results orientated, self-motivated with drive and initiative.

Ability to identify areas of improvement & implementation.

Experience and knowledge of CNC machining process (turning/milling)
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Level 7 Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience is required.

2-4 years of experience of working with CNC or CMM's ideally.
Preferred Experience:

Strong communication and influencing skills with both internal and external agents.

Toolmaking experience desirable

Capable of technical leading, influencing and providing technical direction to Engineers, Coop Students, Technicians, and operators as required.
