Join our dynamic Tools and Infrastructure team at Siemens and play a key role in shaping the foundation of essential tools and infrastructure for a global R&D organization
As an Senior IT Solution Architect, you will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and managing IT infrastructures that support a broad range of core R&D processes, ensuring a seamless and exceptional user experience. You will collaborate with developer teams to optimize the developer toolchain, systems performance, and integration efforts
Your new Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and management of complex IT systems and infrastructure services, including public/private cloud (IaaS, including server virtualization on local hardware) and network infrastructure, to meet the needs of the R&D organization
- Drive technology innovations and collaborate with R&D stakeholders, Siemens corporate IT, and other software/hardware vendors to identify, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge solutions. Establish clear guidance on the evaluation process for new IT solutions specific to the local organization
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and corporate IT procedures, coordinating the integration of organizational policies related to IT systems
- Conduct regular assessments of existing IT systems, gather performance data to monitor resource usage, and propose improvements to optimize system reliability and performance
- Coordinate the installation, specification, testing, and service transition of software and hardware, ensuring alignment with operational needs
- Manage day-to-day operations and maintenance of server and network infrastructures (Windows/Linux, VLAN, VPN, firewall management) to ensure the reliability and robustness of IT services
- Work closely with corporate IT, application operations, and other teams to develop strategies and action plans for upgrades and integrations
- Address security and performance issues, ensuring all systems meet industry standards and corporate security requirements. Participate in security audits and implement required changes
- Provide expert support for server and network troubleshooting, ensuring smooth operations and resolving user issues promptly
Your Talents and Experience
- Experience with IT/OT architectures for R&D environments and workflows based on state-of-the-art open-source concepts, including migration strategies from current solutions. Coverage of all relevant aspects (security, usability, performance, reliability, etc.)
- Extensive experience with core infrastructure technologies:
- Windows and Linux, including configuration and management of base infrastructure services (e.g., file servers, domain controllers)
- Virtualized environments, including hosting hardware, network virtualization, and cloud-based infrastructure
- Database management and administration (e.g., DB2, SQL)
- Network and security technologies (e.g., Cisco, Fortigate firewall, RADIUS) to ensure the integrity and security of IT services
- Familiarity with developer toolchains supporting the software development lifecycle (Git-based CI/CD), including IBM ALM, WebSphere, Artifactory, UrbanCode Deployment, and other relevant competitive technologies
- Strong understanding of security principles for systems and network administration (e.g., vulnerability management, least privilege, network segmentation, zero-trust architecture)
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex systems and proactively propose solutions
- A collaborative mentality with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment and fostering innovation across departments
- Self-starter with the ability to take ownership of vision, lead initiatives, make decisions, and drive improvements within the organization. Project management skills are an advantage
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Fluency in English is required; fluent German is a plus
- A passion for staying up to date with the latest technologies and a willingness to adapt to an evolving technological landscape
- 2–3 days per week of mobile working is standard
