JOB SUMMARY
The Learning and Development Manager (Japan) reports to the Head of Learning and Development Japan and supports this person in the management of locally specific Learning and Development programs with a clear focus on global standardized processes that fit business needs – including the right to operate locally.
The Learning and Development Manager (Japan) is a key ‘customer’ facing position and trusted partner that provides consultancy services to business partners. As well as being reactive and responding to ad-hoc learning requests, the Learning and Development Manager (Japan) must also proactively listen to and capture business needs and assess whether or which learning solution can best address them.
Using these insights, the L&D Partner then ensures learning needs are met using relevant and globally aligned solutions, localized to meet local nuances and needs. This encompasses inputting towards: learning needs assessments; ideation of how to customize existing global solutions and, where global solutions are unavailable, ideating new specific solutions. They then coordinate the design, content development, operations and facilitation to create meaningful and effective learning solutions for the local environment.
As front-line ambassadors of UCB’s learning organisation, they model compliance with company policies and procedures and support company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity throughout their work to help UCB realize its patient value strategy.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Acting as an outstanding course facilitator and UCB’s front-line ambassador for the learning organisation.
• Interprets UCB learning content into learning experiences that motivate, build competencies, and improve individual's performance and contribution to UCB strategy and results.
• Engage and elicit interactions from participants to successfully lead them to attain learning outcomes (knowledge exchange and understanding, behavioral change) during blended learning experiences: face-to-face, virtual (incl. video live streaming) sessions as appropriate.
• Maintain communication with learners for the duration of the course/module
• Utilize learning systems to monitor, track, and report learning activities – attendance, performance, learner feedback
Work on the continuous improvement of facilitation expertise
• Remain current on business and technological evolutions, course materials and facilitation best practice, methods and trends
• Gather and monitor feedback on facilitation and the learning experiences and outcomes (knowledge exchange and understanding, behavioral change)
• From this internal and external input, propose innovative solutions, feed them back to the Learning Experience Team and implement them for continuous improvement of facilitation efforts
Being the trusted L&D partner to local internal customers
• Develop and maintain positive internal customer relationships
• Proactively gathering insights on their customer needs and helping them to identify how and whether learning can best support these needs
• Acting as a local ambassador for UCB’s global learning approach – Updating internal customers on the latest relevant learning solutions available from the global Learning Experience team and possibilities to customize
Create and develop learning experience project proposals for development
• Identify specific learning needs where global solutions are unavailable and communicate this to the Head of Learning and Development head for input and approval
Execute Learning Experience Projects end-to-end, from initial learning needs assessments to implementation to continuous improvement of learning solutions
• Collaborate with the global Learning Experience team in developing projects by contributing knowledge towards:
o The learning needs assessments they conduct on a project
o The design and development of the projects as they bring them to pilot phase
o Monitoring that the specific vision is correctly developed into the solutions
• Work closely with the TAD&L Operations & Technology team and input your expertise and advice towards:
o The scaling up of projects – change management considerations, business specificity and continuity challenges
o Assisting them by coordinating the smooth implementation of the learning experiences – input on planning, briefing the Learning and Development Managers, troubleshooting, and issue management
• Ensure continuous improvement in local learning solutions
o Work closely with TAD&L Operations & Technology to understand data-led insights on learning experiences in the region
o Together with the Learning Experience team work on iterations of learning experience according to insights gathered and monitor their correct implementation by TAD&L Operations & Technology.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree or working equivalent
Experience:
• 3-5+ years’ experience in a facilitation role
• 2 years’ experience in Learning Partnering role
• Proven background in sales and disease state knowledge and or Marketing, Medical (MSL) (e.g.,
myasthenia gravis, etc.…) to align with UCBs current and future commercial business needs
• Proven experience working directly with and supporting internal business partners in Rare Disease as SPOC (Sigle Point of Contact)
• Experience implementing and coordinating multiple learning projects under global direction and/or in pharma environment is a plus.
• Must require 2-3 years’ Experience leading for meeting, presentation and facilitator in English
