This new entity will provide marine and technical support to the MSC Cruises fleet within the USA region and will serve as a vital link to our MSC Cruise Management office in London. As Technical Port Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the technical port operations for ships in the North American and Caribbean Canvas – as well as the daily control and monitoring together with other team members in the MSC Cruises USA Port operations team.
• Conducts technical analysis of proposed future itineraries, in coordination with Vice President Port Operations UK.
• Attends on-site inspections with relevant departments in preparation for start of new cruise season, especially in regards to new canvas areas (Alaska etc.)
• Attends on-site Port Inspections of new ports along with associated reports and risk assessments to accompany them (working with Fleet Operations and Port Operations UK);
• Investigates new Ports of Call: conducting preliminary inspections, checking the available operational facilities and fitting them to the MSC cruise ship’s operational needs.
• Follows up with local service providers and Port Authorities to ensure operative equipment and personnel meet the requirements for proposed contract terms being proposed by the Director of Port Operations MSC Cruises USA.
• Supports the Director, Port Operations US with negotiations for Long Term Agreements in the strategic ports.
• Supports the Vice President Port Operations UK for the new cruise terminal projects, new cruise terminal constructions and its operational facilities.
• Fluent English (knowledge other languages is preferred but not essential);
• Experience sailing as Deck Officer on Cruise Ships (as 2nd Officer or higher)
• OOW Deck Unlimited (or higher)• Management Degree and nautical school education
• Minimum 1 year experience as Port Ops Coordinator is preferred;
• Computer literacy with proficient knowledge of basis system;
• Excellent organisation and time management skills;
• Attention to detail;
• Availability to travel often and with a short notice;
• US Passport or US Permanent Resident
