Job Description

About This Role

As our Engineer III, Automation, your main responsibilities include maintaining and troubleshooting all process control system hardware and software Distributed Control System (DCS), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Programmable Logic Control (PLC) strategy in Business Execution System (BES) team supporting a platform recipe driven, fully integrated, and validated large scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Solothurn (SOL), Switzerland.

You will also be responsible for creating software design specifications, implementing new control strategies, developing and executing software and respective test protocols in support of operations, new products and processes. Fluent with various other Automation systems including but not limited to DCS (DeltaV), Data Historian (OSI PI), Batch Reporting systems, MES (Syncade) and PLCs (Siemens) with implementing Facilities, Utilities and Manufacturing shopfloor Automation systems. DCS scope includes control of PLC, equipment and integration with MES and historian systems to enable the site’s Review-by-Exception (RBE) strategy and its paperless manufacturing environment. Good understanding of instrumentation to facilitate troubleshooting.

You will also lead and manage small engineering projects with little direction (can require support from senior engineers) and will troubleshoot process control systems in addition to supporting manufacturing operations through an 24/7 on-call rotation.

What You'll Do

  • Identify and work on operational changes, process and continuous improvement operational projects across various Manufacturing units as well as Automation systems. Independently develop software solutions following lifecycle documentation and software strategy to support site operations and projects. Troubleshoot process control systems and supports manufacturing operations during office hour and through an 24/7 on-call rotation. Responsible for Quality Records such as Change Control, Deviations, Corrective and Preventative Actions.
  • Support software and hardware that comprises the various Automation systems including DeltaV, OSI PI, Infobatch, Syncade. Perform System administration duties.
  • Work with cross functional teams to support alignment across sites for process and system improvements.
  • Enable high quality compliance adherence which includes and not limited to maintaining training record, support internal and external inspection activities, owns and maintain local procedures.

Who you are

You are an SME Engineer able to provides technical engineering support to the BES automation teams to ensure alignment with the overall site goals, with a strong ability to evaluates technical options and possibilities for the BES automation scope and chooses the optimal solution. You are also able to provide feedback on the work of the third party BES automation contractors to optimize and improve their work.

Required skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of DeltaV and/or Syncade systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cGMP and GAMP guidelines.
  • 6+ years Automation, Biotechnology and/or batch pharmaceutical production experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, proactive, creative and self-motivated with ability to multi-tasks.
  • Good communication and relationship skills is required.
  • BS or MS Degree in an Engineering discipline (Chemical, Biotechnology etc) or Computer Sciences or equivalent professional experience in the relevant fields.
