Job Description Summary
Project Engineering Manager will be leading the engineering activities of the project, (or on a particular work package of the project in case of Large & Complex project) considering the safety/quality/Cost/time delivery criteria.
The role involves in planning the overall design activities, manages project design budget, implements design change process, supervises, and coordinates all engineering activities required to execute the project and ensures technical coordination as required for the assigned project. This position warrants that optimized technical solutions (cost effective solution, ease of installation and operation of the systems) in line with GSI Regions/Customer expectation are implemented by project engineering team within GEC and that documentation are delivered as per project general L2 time schedule.
Project Engineering Manager is accountable for the proper performance of design in matter of time spent, deadlines, and quality. The position’s field of intervention is linked to project strategy / GSI Regions Engineering / Project Co-Ordinator.
This position will provide the candidate an ideal opportunity to develop problem solving and communication skills in a global environment and build up a network within engineering community. The position will be guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role.
The candidate will work with GSI Global Engineering Center (GSI GEC) to coordinate with the GSI Regions / Business Lines / as per Project requirement.
This role is to take the responsibilities for CE Region projects (Central Europe Region) based out at India.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Serves as the Project Engineering leader/manager to develop or coordinate with the respective department associated with the scope of engineering works, prepare a schedule, and monitor engineering activities for global GSI Regions projects.
Provide technical leadership and interface with GSI Regions/GE Vernova Business Lines to estimate the optimized manhour cost for the engineering activities / other required activities for the execution of the project / Tender.
Responsible to interfaces and co-ordinate various stakeholder to close project warranty scope.
Own the project plan for warranty engineering scope, Engineering mobilization planning, on-time delivery and business process adherence, raise change request where appropriate.
Implementing process and ensure quality of deliverables.
Leading project engineering resources to deliver engineering scope.
Motivate and empower the project team providing insights and rewards to the team.
Responsible for customer / GSI Regions / BL’s management for technical scope of the Project works.
Uses judgement to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, or engineering.
Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations and uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
Strictly follow the engineering process & procedures, guidelines, Local Practices / Standards / Codes as per the assigned projects of GSI Regions.
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
Strong sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage technical risks.
Ensure project on-time delivery and reduce Cost of Poor Quality.
Ability to decide on priority call on various tasks within the project.
Provide constructive feedback where appropriate.
Provide immediate feedback and seek to correct behaviors of the team that do not foster a good culture or contribute towards unsafe behavior or bad practices that jeopardize our achievements.
Key Value Drivers:
Coordinate / Approval of Engineering Service Level Agreement with GSI Regions / Business Lines / Service Providers for the assigned projects.
Schedule Adherence for On-Time Delivery of Engineering Packages / Projects and as-sold / allocated budget.
T&M Management for assigned / project engineering team.
Skill Development for the team as per the requirement of the projects anticipating the future in line with requirement from the GSI Regions/Business Lines.
Implementing the Lean principles for the improvement on the engineering productivity and efficiency.
Taking a lead to get the validation of utilized manhours on the project for monthly invoicing.
Successor / Team Development.
Hit Rate of Bids Supported for the tenders for the GSI Regions (If Applicable).
Required Qualifications
Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent including power systems.
Min 10+ years of design / project engineering experience as a Lead Engineer or Project Engineering Manager in the EHV/HV electrical substations (AIS / GIS / HVDC / FACTS / Onshore / Offshore / Renewable/etc.,) and min 5+ Years of People Management role.
Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and international projects.
Strong sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage team organizational risks.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, experienced in creating and presenting to other stake holders.
Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality, and engineering integrity of the solution / system.
Experience in technical leadership.
Must be flexible with working hours and willing to travel to support projects globally.
