Main Purpose:
The Regional Legal Counsel for the Americas Region manages the legal affairs for the entire region and oversees and coordinates local legal matters in each of the countries where Puma Energy is present or doing business. The Counsel contributes to the success of Puma Energy and fosters the organization to help it grow.
The Regional Legal Counsel reports into the COO of the Region for coordination of all activities on a day to day basis as well as into the General Counsel in Geneva for legal, team coordination and HQ reporting purposes.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads and maintains a function which is focused, commercial and fit for purpose for
- the needs of Puma Energy in the LATAM Region and each of the countries where Puma Energy has a presence;
- Takes ownership of legal compliance and rights management across the Region;
- Provides in-house counsel directly to clients in the head office, the General Management of each country and the business;
- Advises and supports the Regional COO and the Regional Management with a focus on HR and finance in developing a Legal and Business Affairs strategy for the Puma Energy;
- Partners with key executives throughout the Region on commercial negotiations for business deals as well as M&A and beyond;
- Oversees work allocation across the team and take decisions as to how to resource the work (outsourcing/insourcing) in consultation with the Regional COO and/or General Managers and other stakeholders as needed;
- Ensures appropriate service levels are maintained for key clients and manage relationships effectively;
- provides effective support and guidance and day to day line management, including professional supervision as required, to the business teams, promoting a culture of professional development and continuous improvement;
- Operates within given budget and resources and upholds departmental code of conduct and guidelines;
- Selects, manages and oversees a solid network of external counsel in various jurisdictions and for various legal challenges;
- Aligns closely with peers in other regions as well the HQ in Geneva/Switzerland.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience
- 10+ years PQE (flexible);
- preferably spent as in-house legal counsel for a global enterprise;
Skills
- Bachelor of Laws Degree
- This position requires traveling international.
- Admitted to the bar (good to have)
- good intercultural and interpersonal skills;
- Self-starter, roll up the sleeves mentality, ready to travel and go the extra mile;
- Flexible and dynamic;
- Down to earth and authentic.
- fluent in Spanish and English.
