The Analyst, Revenue Recognition is responsible for reviewing, evaluating and analyzing customer contract terms and presenting the expected ASC 606/842 accounting treatment, as well as proposing options, to the Sales, Legal and Finance management teams during the contract proposal and drafting phases. Additionally, this individual is responsible for the ongoing accounting/recording of contract modifications, amendments, terminations, etc. timely and accurately for month end close purposes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Review customer contracts for proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policy and accounting standards – (ASC606/842)
- Ability to research and discuss complex revenue recognition issues
- Collaborate with Contracts and Sales teams during contract draft/proposal stage to identify any accounting and financial impacts
- Assist with aligning internal controls to developments in the business for changes in operations as needed (new revenue stream, organizational alignment, etc.)
- Manage specific accruals related to revenue acceleration / deferral related to performance obligations under 606/842
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve and automate revenue accounting processes
- Perform monthly and quarterly revenue accounting close procedures relating to revenue, deferred revenue, and accounts receivable including journal entry preparation, posting, account reconciliation, analysis and reporting
- Review, maintain records and ensure timely booking of accruals for sales rebates, commission and special contract arrangements (sensor reductions, coupons, promotions…)
- Work closely with FP&A and Sales Ops to forecast and follow up fulfillment of contracts
- Assist management with SOX and Financial Audits
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum three to five years of related Financial Analysis and Accounting Experience
- Strong knowledge of technical GAAP, specifically revenue recognition is an asset.
- Strong communication skills - including ability to drive discussions at different level of the organization.
- Strong spreadsheet and database management skills;
- Must be proficient with MS Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word)
- Strong analytical skills;
- Self-motivated, pro-active, detail oriented and ability to multitask.
- Ability to identify inherent risks and propose areas for improvements on existing and new processes
- A solid understanding of the concepts of internal control design and operational effectiveness
Education:
- Master’s / Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent
