swisspeace is a practice and research institute dedicated to advancing effective peacebuilding. It supports and advises local, national, and international actors relevant for peacebuilding, researches topics particu-larly relevant for peacebuilding practice, provides spaces for exchange and dialogue, and shapes peace policy in Switzerland and globally. swisspeace is an associated institute of the University of Basel.
To reinforce its Peacebuilding Analysis & Impact (PAI) program, swisspeace is looking for a Program Officer - HDP Nexus & Conflict Sensitivity 80-100%.
The Peacebuilding Analysis & Impact (PAI) program is the methodology innovation hub of swisspeace. Our mission is to support our partners and clients to improve analysis, management, and learning processes to ultimately increase the effectiveness and positive impact of their work in conflict-affected contexts. We are at the forefront of advancing conflict sensitivity and humanitarian- development- peacebuilding (HDP) nexus approaches both in research and policy as well as in institutional practice. The PAI team aims to reinforce its advisory, training, and project activities in these thematic areas in fast-changing environments in West Africa, South Sudan, Palestine, Syria, and beyond.
Your position
- Contribute to swisspeace’s work in the framework of the Peacebuilding Analysis & Impact program.
- Advise partner organisations and clients on the integration of conflict sensitivity into their practice and institutions.
- Support the conceptualization and accompany the operationalization of humanitarian- development- peacebuilding (HDP) nexus approaches of clients and partners.
- Implement tailor-made capacity building measures and trainings on peacebuilding design, conflict sensi-tivity, and HDP nexus and contribute to new training offers.
- Responsibility to manage projects in conflict affected contexts.
Your profile
- Strong interest in peacebuilding and the role of international aid in conflict transformation.
- Sound knowledge of HDP nexus, conflict sensitivity, and effectiveness of aid in complex contexts.
- Proven project management, facilitation and training skills.
- 3-5 years of work experience in peacebuilding or in supporting the implementation of development pro-jects in contexts of conflict and fragility. Field experience (i.e. in West Africa, South Sudan, Middle East) is a strong asset.
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Excellent spoken and written English French and/or Arabic. Knowledge of German is an asset.
- Ability and willingness for frequent international travel, including to conflict-affected countries.
- Strong team player with a sense of humour and with the ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.
