The Research Group Snow Hydrology in Davos investigates the dynamics of snow water resources and snowmelt in alpine watersheds. To complete our snow hydrology research team, we offer a three-year position starting in October 2024 as a
with a possibility for extension. You will enhance an operational snow hydrological model system by improving a range of snow process representations and associated data assimilation schemes. You will work with our national snow analysis and forecasting system, collaborate in national and international research projects, and contribute to running our operational services. Your research findings will directly enhance snow predictions used by the Swiss avalanche and flood forecasting services, in the hydropower production planning process, and for public information. You will publish your research findings in scientific journals and present them at international conferences.
You hold a university degree in environmental sciences, physics, mathematics, or a related field, along with a PhD ideally focused on a topic related to snow hydrology. Expertise in using and developing spatially distributed snow models and corresponding data assimilation methods is desirable. You will be part of a collaborative team environment that bridges the gap between science and practical application, fostering a stimulating and supportive work culture.
