In this role, a typical day will include:
• Responsible for assisting the Heads FRA Operations, Technical Accounting, Consolidation and Reporting, and External Reporting in ensuring accounting compliance with IFRS.
• Responsible for reviewing potential BD&L and M&A deals for optimal accounting treatment, and assisting in the financial due diligence on these transactions; monthly analysis/review of financial statements, including balance sheet, cash flows, summary of intangible assets, and other income and expense.
• Provide assistance in the quarterly and annual intangible impairment review/testing procedures; maintaining Sarbanes-Oxley Act processes for FRA Operations global controls; and various monthly/quarterly reporting activities for the FRA Operations.
• Provide accounting / reporting support as SPOC/SME for identified function, region, and for identified areas of technical accounting.
• Responsible for accounting compliance with IFRS as interpreted by Group and includes assisting the Head of TA in the following:
• Support Treasury with accounting implications from complex financial instruments, including derivatives.
• Monitoring developments in IFRS and US GAAP and setting accounting policies for FRA Operations in conjunction with Group and communicating these policies to the local entities, FRA Operations, Business Units (BU’s) function, etc.
• Investigating financial accounting policy issues, recommending, and implementing actions as appropriate.
• Providing technical accounting support to local entities, regions and functions (in line with the responsibility matrix) for complex / significant matters, preparing / reviewing appropriate accounting documentation (Accounting Position Paper) in line with matrix for approval of accounting issues.
• Responsibility for impairment reviews (critical review of data provided by other functions, challenging assumptions, meeting with business partners, preparation of supporting documentation, coordination of reviews by management and PwC and following up on any review issues).
• Reviewing potential Business, Development & Licensing (BD&L) for FRA Operations deals in order to assess the accounting treatment under IFRS, preparation of accounting documentation for the deals / review and sign off accounting documentation.
• Reviewing potential acquisitions, to provide the M&A team with input on any accounting implications, preparing purchase price accounting and relevant acquisition models for completed FRA Operations acquisitions, obtaining appropriate sign offs as required under Sarbanes-Oxley.
• Responsible for assisting the Head of FRA Operations TA in maintaining the various requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act for the FRA Operations in conjunction with established processes.
• Responsible for analyzing the FRA Operations and balance sheet, cash flow, other operating income and expense, intangible assets and provisions, and other elements associated with the specific activities of functions supported by FRA Operations TA (including product costing and development) and driving improvements in the process and presentation of the output.
• Rolling out improvements in the process and documentation to the Regions and local entities as appropriate. •Supporting IFRS to US GAAP conversion readiness.
• Preparing and/or reviewing training material content for FRA, including instructing assigned sessions.
• Updating the accounting content of FRA Operations manuals and BD&L manuals
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
• Bachelor’s Degree or •Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
• 7 Years of Relevant experience
• Masters or Advanced degree in Accounting and/or Finance preferred
• CPA/Chartered Accountant
• Accounting experience – Public and Industry
• Comprehensive knowledge of IFRS (GAAP), accounting and financial reporting requirements. •Strong analytical skills.
• Experience in financial accounting and reporting, auditing and financial process engineering, with record of strong control focus
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, influencing and management skills
• Proficient ERP knowledge (SAP, JDE)
• Solid Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Experience working with shared services teams
