Overview of Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT Digital Banking Application Manager to oversee and manage of our digital banking platform. This pivotal role involves ensuring the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of the banking applications, with a particular focus on Avaloq and other third-party solutions. You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of the digital banking platform, mobile banking platform, collaborating with both technical and business teams to meet the evolving digital needs of our bank.
As an IT Digital Banking Application Manager, you will take ownership of the technical management, optimisation, and enhancement of the digital banking environment. You will ensure the smooth operation of mission-critical systems, manage incidents and upgrades, and lead technical delivery projects. A key part of your role will be working closely with the Digital Product Owner, acting as the technical counterpart to help align the technical strategy with business goals and product development.
Your role will require strong technical expertise in eBanking systems, a solid understanding of financial industry requirements, and an ability to navigate the complexities of digital banking environments. You will bring both a strategic mindset and practical problem-solving ability to ensure that our platforms remain secure, compliant, and aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Application Management: Oversee the technical management and architectural design of the digital banking platform (Avaloq AFP), mobile banking platform (Avaloq Mobile App) including Identity and Access Management (Airlock IAM) systems and third-party solutions such as Unblu. Ensure optimal performance, lifecycle management, and alignment with business needs.
- Collaboration with Digital Product Owner & Business Analysis: Work closely with the Digital Product Owner to align technical aspects of the platform with the product roadmap. As the technical responsible, you will define technical requirements, assess feasibility and impact, and translate business needs into detailed technical specifications, user stories, and test concepts to ensure successful implementation of product developments and that new features comply with the platform's architectural principles.
- End-to-End Delivery Management: Take responsibility for the delivery of technical solutions, including release planning, tracking progress, and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery of changes and updates to the digital banking platform.
- Incident and Problem Management: Manage incidents, faults, and errors, ensuring that root causes are identified and resolved in collaboration with internal and external teams. Track incidents through to resolution, maintaining effective communication with stakeholders.
- System Optimisation: Continuously optimise the digital banking platform’s performance, scalability, and security. Monitor system health, propose enhancements, and implement improvements to ensure high availability and performance standards are met.
- Collaboration with Vendors and Stakeholders: Work closely with third-party vendors, ensuring that service-level agreements (SLAs) are met, and technical changes are properly coordinated. Engage with internal teams and external partners to implement new systems, integrations, and upgrades.
- Agile Delivery: Lead the delivery team as a Scrum Master within Agile frameworks (Scrum/Kanban) to ensure features are delivered iteratively and efficiently. Facilitate sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives, ensuring that technical delivery aligns with business goals.
- Compliance and Security: Ensure that all digital banking systems comply with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS) and meet internal security standards. Proactively manage security risks, including working with IAM systems and Web Application Firewalls (WAF).
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, both in the product and within the organisation, and communicate these to relevant stakeholders. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Documentation and Testing: Ensure comprehensive documentation of system architecture, and technical specifications.
- Opportunity to obtain Avaloq and Airlock certification (if not available) with the support of Rothschild & Co.
Experience, Skills and Competencies Required
- Strong technical background with a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or further education in Computer Science, Business Informatics (or a comparable field).
- 7+ years of experience in IT application management, IT business analysis, and/or IT project management, preferably in banking or financial services industry.
- Strong understanding of modern web technologies, including but not limited to JavaScript frameworks, APIs, web security, relational databases and cloud services.
- Demonstrated knowledge of DevOps practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, containerization, automated testing).
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English (German is a plus).
- Strong communication skills to ensure all stakeholders are kept well informed on requirements and delivery.

- Experience with software development lifecycles and Agile methodologies, especially Scrum and Kanban (Scrum Master experience preferred).
Complementary Experience, Skills and Competencies
- Experience with Avaloq Front Platform (AFP) and the Avaloq mobile App
- Front-end development experience (with Angular or a similar JavaScript framework)
- Back-end / API development experience (preferably with Java)
- Practical knowledge of Oracle and OpenShift
- Knowledge or experience of Airlock IAM/WAF or a similar web security platform
- Experience of the Avaloq Banking Suite
- Experience or familiarity with architectural frameworks
