The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) seeks a qualified and highly motivated Senior IT Support Specialist to support its IT Services and user community. The successful candidate will help support and manage a modern, cloud-based IT infrastructure and a heterogeneous environment including workstations used for data analyses and computers connected to scientific instruments for data acquisition.

Your position
- Ensure security and data protection compliance of the IT Services and systems along with other relevant IT devices.
- Install, configure and maintain computer endpoints (macOS and Windows), peripheral devices (printers, multi-vendor video conferencing systems, etc.).
- Provide user training, guidance and support to end users, manage IT support tickets, and maintain records/ logs of resolutions and fixes.
- Directly contribute to the resolution of non-routine technical problems.
- Interact with laboratory personals, group and technology platform heads, administration and academic partners to support their activities.
- Create and manage user and administration documentation to facilitate effective knowledge transfer to both the IT team and the user community.
- Support and contribute to the further development of the institute’s IT Services.
- Lead IT infrastructure projects, including collecting user requirements, planning and direct implementation
- Manage Azure Active Directory, Azure Autopilot deployment and define, create and modify the Intune management policies to ensure endpoint compliance.
Your profile
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or the equivalent relevant experience; IT certification is an advantage.
- In-depth understanding of and experience with diverse computer systems and networks; macOS and Windows endpoints along with Linux and Windows server deployment in a VM environment.
- Minimum 8 years proven experience as an IT Support Specialist or equivalent; experience in research setting or degree in the natural sciences is advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years proven experience working with and supporting macOS and Windows endpoints.
- Minimum 5 years proven experience working with and supporting MS Azure and Google cloud products.
- Minimum 3 years proven experience of leading a team and IT management skills
- Strong customer orientation with outstanding communication and problem-solving capabilities along with excellent time-management.
- Good knowledge of internet security and data protection principles.
- You are a solution orientated, self-starter who can work on their own initiative and pursue issues to their natural conclusion.
- Excellent communication skills in English (C1 minimum), user-friendliness and solution-oriented approach. The addition of German would be a plus. The addition of German would be a plus.
- This position is hands-on and demands both an independent working style and an ability to interact comfortably with users of varying IT skills. Openness to innovative, non-traditional solutions is very important.
