As a pivotal role within Takeda's R&D and Portfolio and Program Management (PPM) capability, the Director of Portfolio Finance, Process & Systems will be instrumental in enabling Takeda to optimize portfolio delivery in terms of speed, quality, and cost. We are seeking a capable leader to establish a trusted single source of truth across our portfolio and develop a sophisticated infrastructure for study, program, and portfolio-level financial reporting, analytics, and insights to inform decision-making at all levels.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:
This critical role involves strategic collaboration with Global Portfolio Strategy leadership, Research & Development, Development Program Teams, R&D Finance, and other Enterprise functions. The Director will lead the financial planning solution and capabilities for an integrated portfolio and financial management platform, building on Takeda’s innovative culture.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Vision and Roadmap: Formulate and communicate a compelling vision and roadmap for effective financial management aligned to project management and resource planning, enabling Takeda to optimize portfolio delivery in terms of speed, quality, and cost.
- Standardization: Develop and maintain standardized cross-functional financial planning processes and standards to establish a trusted single source of truth for all studies and programs, enabling foundational and advanced analytics, including real-time scenario modeling.
- Reporting and Analytics: Champion a vision and implementation roadmap for study, program, and portfolio-level reporting and analytics related to timelines, costs, and risks, empowering key stakeholders to manage their respective areas effectively.
- Collaboration: Work closely with R&D Finance, R&D Stakeholders, and Digital (IT) to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Operating Model: Contribute to the Development Program Operating Model, including cost and financial planning, to meet the needs of Takeda’s portfolio.
- Financial Forecasting: Partner with R&D Finance and Digital (IT) to integrate financial forecasting capabilities for clinical trials with PPM and other enterprise systems, enabling real-time cost estimation.
- Resource Forecasting: Collaborate with the resource management team to establish a dynamic resource forecasting capability that aligns with our R&D portfolio strategy.
- Strategic Partnerships: Establish strategic partnerships with R&D Portfolio Strategy, R&D Finance, and Enterprise functions to provide foresight into financial planning, resource optimization, and strategic business planning.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate relationships with executive and functional leaders to align portfolio operations with Takeda’s objectives, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a business or scientific discipline with over 10 years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, including substantial leadership experience.
- Expertise: Proficiency in R&D finance, drug development project management, portfolio operations, governance, modeling, and resource/financial forecasting, with a history of leveraging insights to drive corporate value and strategic initiatives.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in research, clinical study, program, and portfolio financial planning and operations, with a track record of establishing industry-leading portfolio-level processes. Experienced implementing, delivering and supporting enterprise scale business solutions.
- Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical acumen and a comprehensive understanding of business dynamics and clinical development processes.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage complex, dynamic organizations collaboratively to achieve breakthroughs in medicine.
- Strategic Vision: Recognized ability to envision strategic directions and execute on them, driving process enhancements and organizational transformation.
- Communication Skills: Superior communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to facilitate executive-level discourse and decision-making.

U.S. Base Salary Range:
169,400.00 - 266,200.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
