The Department of Clinical Research (DCR) is an academic center and umbrella organization supporting clinical researchers at the University of Bern and the University Hospitals, consisting of a strong Research Unit, the CTU Bern, the Clinical Investigation Unit (CIU) and new future subunits, a Medical Data Science Unit and a Gender Medicine Unit.
DCR is a diverse department that provides a central organization for expertise, innovation, leadership, contemporary pedagogy, and centralized facilities to support clinical researchers. The DCR provides clinical researchers with comprehensive support from study design through to implementation, conduct, analysis, and publication. The DCR works in multiple collaborations with the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospitals.

To conduct and supervise statistical analyses and to provide methodological support, the DCR is looking for a Biostatistician to join our team at the earliest opportunity.



Biostatistician

Tasks

  • Independently prepare, validate, and analyze data of clinical studies (observational studies, randomized-controlled trials, meta-analyses).
  • Develop statistical analysis plans of clinical trials.
  • Support other members of the division and external clients in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Contribute to the design and development of observational studies and clinical trials. Perform sample size calculation.
  • Contribute to final reports and manuscripts for publication of research projects as well as research grants for new projects.
  • Teaching of clinical investigators and study nurses.

Requirements

  • University degree in (bio) statistics (PhD, MSc, MAS) or equivalent.
  • Thorough experience in the analysis of clinical studies using statistical software.
  • Knowledge in methodology of clinical and epidemiological studies.
  • Good programming skills, preferentially in R.
  • Very good knowledge of English, good knowledge of German.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a small team, as well as independently, attention to record keeping, detail and quality.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience in Bayesian analysis or with adaptive trial designs would be an asset.
