The Public Affairs and Market Access Manager is responsible for Public Affairs’ in 4 areas of focus across West Africa - Government Relations, Global Public Health, Market Access, and International Relations. The role will cover West Africa and report to the Associate Director of Public Affairs and Market Access Africa.

About the role
The Public Affairs and Market Access Manager will work closely with the EMEA Public Policy and Advocacy team, the EMEA Market Access team, Global Public Affairs teams, as well as the Africa business teams in key disease states and BD strategic imperatives. Develop strong external relationships with governments, as well as other healthcare stakeholders such as KOLs, healthcare providers, professional societies, NGOs, patient organizations and industry as well as strong internal teamwork will be key to accelerate the BD business.
Main responsibilities will include:
1. Understand health system needs
- Work with regional partners, governments, and business segments and units to identify customer needs, access gaps, and unmet public health needs in West Africa. This role will be responsible for keeping the region up to date on key trends and funding opportunities.
2. Create multi-pronged advocacy programs
- Build collaborative relationships with governments in West Africa to help address highly prioritized unmet health needs
3. Lead and Develop implementation partnerships
- Expand access to and create enabling environments for BD global health priorities via partnerships with leading organizations in West Africa
4. Support BUs in building coalitions of funders and implementation partners to address unmet needs and access gap, piloting innovative GTM models:
5. Support the AMR (Anti-Microbial resistance) strategy and implementation across Africa, including the Fleming Fund program in West Africa
6. Collaborate with internal Medical Affairs, Health Economics and Outcomes
Research, and commercial teams to align on outcomes metrics
7. Partner with implementing agencies, customers, governments, and academic institutions to demonstrate Shared Value
8. Responsible for elements of market development planning and execution
9. Support the development and Implementation of Market Access strategies
10. Establish payment pathways & product reimbursement in key markets for prioritized BD products and solutions in West Africa.
11. Support efforts to build and develop the organization’s HEOR (Health Economics Outcome Research) strategy
About you
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced master’s degree is preferred.
- 3-5 years’ experience in working effectively in matrix settings that cross businesses, geographies and functions
- Exceptional external engagement skills and demonstrated experience in working across sectors in forming and leading collaborative initiatives.
- Demonstrated and successful experience in implementing public policy objectives across business units or equivalent experience in successfully working within a complex organization
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as outstanding problem-solving, organization and presentation skills. Ability to translate broad corporate strategies into clear, specific objectives and plans for implementation.
- Ability to travel 50% of time – primarily in Africa with potential for select international travel.
