The right candidate will have the potential to develop our Project and Process Safety Engineering Protocols with influence across the entire organization, positioning you as a key figure in steering Bavarian Nordic's EHS strategy. You will partner with our Global Project Engineering team and Biosafety Officers to support the Biorisk Management System and contribute to our Biosafety Centre of Excellence Ambition.

We are expanding our EHS organization to support our mission of protecting lives every day. As our business grows, this role presents an exciting opportunity to influence and shape global EHS initiatives. In this position, you will collaborate with EHS specialists and cross-functional teams worldwide, with approximately 15% travel expected to support our various locations. Key stakeholders will include Project Engineering, the Biosafety team, the Global Environmental Lead, and Global Operations.
This hybrid role is based in Kvistgaard, Denmark; or Bern, Switzerland, and reports to the Global EHS Director.
Your Impact
This is a senior role where you will lead initiatives to manage critical risk scenarios, ensure safe and reliable operations, and contribute to the continued success of Bavarian Nordic. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence our EHS strategy, drive operational excellence, and collaborate across global locations.
Your key tasks will include:
- Operational Leadership: Evaluate critical risks, develop safe operating protocols, and provide technical support for operational and research facilities
- Behavioral Change: Drive safety culture by embedding safety principles into production, engineering, and laboratory activities, leveraging knowledge of Human and Organizational Performance Principles (HOP)
- Project Management: Oversee EHS aspects of projects, support risk mitigation, and partner with Biosafety Officers and Environmental Leads on key initiatives
- Compliance and Regulation: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., REACH, SEVESO, Machinery Directive) and act as a liaison with regulatory authorities
- Risk Assessment: Lead HAZOPs, PHRs, LOPA assessments, and incident investigations to identify and address process safety risks
- Reporting and Analysis: Develop and report on Process Safety KPIs while implementing global process safety systems
Are you our next pioneer?
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A bachelor's degree in chemical, pharmaceutical, or mechanical engineering (master's preferred)
- 5+ years' experience as a Process Safety Engineer, ideally in pharmaceutical or vaccine manufacturing
- Expertise in process safety programs, including HAZOPS, SIL assessments, and EHS-critical equipment management
- Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ASME, API, NFPA) and Management of Change (MOC) principles
- Proficiency in English; Danish or German is a plus
