The ETH Zurich core facility NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies enables discovery and translational research for personalized health. We offer a broad range of expertise, from software engineering and biomedical data management to lab automation and screening services. Embedded in this multi-disciplinary team, the clinical bioinformatics group applies expertise in bioinformatics and statistics to the advancement of biomedical research and clinical applications.

We are recruiting a Bioinformatics Analyst for the Clinical Bioinformatics Group of NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies in Basel or Zürich, to commence immediately or by mutual agreement.

Job description

The primary focus of your position will be the project-tailored analyses and results reporting of diverse high-throughput multi-omics data types, such as whole-genome and transcriptome, single-cell and spatial data. Our projects are typically in a biomedical research or clinical diagnostics setting, and their scope can be very wide, ranging from basic NGS analyses to clinical reporting or public health surveillance. In that respect, NEXUS collaborates with various academic institutions and hospitals and you will communicate with diverse stakeholders. Further, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of reproducible analysis pipelines and software packages. We also have a strong focus on making sure that data adheres to the FAIR principles and on supporting partners to follow research data management best practices.

Profile

We are looking for a motivated and diligent colleague who likes to exchange with others and who is interested in clinical science and translational research.

The position requires

  • MSc in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field
  • Proven experience in biomedical, genomics, or integrative research projects involving molecular data sets
  • Experience in analyzing genomics/transcriptomics sequencing data
  • Solid programming skills in Python or R
  • Familiarity in HPC usage and Bash
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written

Advantageous are

  • Experience in statistics or software development
  • Experience with workflow management systems
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to translate project needs into technical solutions
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of German
