Senior Construction Underwriter
Job Description
- Produce new business from the EMEA region in Contractors All Risks (CAR) and EAR (Erection All Risks) policies on a Single Project or Annual basis form, insurance, and facultative reinsurance.
- Contribute to the development and quality of the portfolio in accordance with the underwriting policy and the direction being selected by the Global Line of business.
- Contribute to the commercial activity for the Region, with a specific focus on German speaking markets and continental Europe in coordination with other Lines of Business.
- Give added value to the Global Construction teams on specific technical and/or language skills
Responsibilities
Under the direct authority of the London Based EMEA Regional Head of construction and in close cooperation with the Zürich based Global Head of construction for SBS:
Principal activities
- Underwrite, build and maintain a profitable portfolio in accordance with the SCOR Business solutions underwriting guidelines, Roadmaps and more specific ad ’hoc guidance.
- Underwrite in a technical manner to assess risks in order to determine their insurability and apply appropriate terms and conditions.
- Identify new business targets in order to develop a profitable profile for SCOR Business solutions.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and their intermediaries (brokers, ceding companies).
- Visit regularly our clients and project sites (approx. 10-20 days of business travel per year)
- Promote SCOR to our customers by using the communication and marketing products (seminars, forums, materials etc).
- Work in close cooperation and coordination with your colleagues in the Scor Business solutions network with where appropriate the sharing of business objectives to produce the best response to your producers and for the division.
- Correctly service the In-force portfolio paying particular attention to profitability.
- Responsibly manage data recorded in our information systems to give an accurate representation of the risks subscribed and to allow portfolio analysis.
- Supervise the administration of the back-office plateform (in liaison with the Technical Assistants) in relation to new or existing accounts
- Regularly interact with our claims team to inform the underwriting process.
Contract management
- Maintain reliable data in the IT tools – Underwriting plateform, backoffice plateform,
- Ensure proper management of contracts (endorsements, renewals, claims…) in and proper control of the accuracy of data keyed into the IT system;
- Maintain profitability and sustainability as a key driver for decision making
Client management
- Adopt a solution-oriented customer centric view, in building on cross selling with other lines of business or with treaty for facultative services.
Global Construction team
- Participating to broader Global construction initiatives and projects.
Qualifications
You are an underwriter with at least 10 years of experience in your insurance market with exposure to all types of international construction risks. Previous experience of working in the German Speaking markets (DACH) is a must.

- Confidence to develop and maintain a network of brokers and clients
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and confident to represent Specialty Insurance at conferences, meetings or professional associations
- Able to travel
- Engineering degree and/or recognized professional insurance qualifications
- Proactive – team player – international minded
