Job Description Summary
The GE Aerospace Consulting Engineer / Technologist is a recognized expert in a specialized field responsible for driving product and technology roadmaps with long-term business implications. They advise on complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise while using a breadth of knowledge across related disciplines. A Consulting Engineer is responsible for chairing Design Reviews, Design Boards and/or owns Design Practice Standard Work. They also own technical development plans within their area of expertise and provide technical mentoring and training.
The Performance Consulting Engineer’s areas of expertise will include engine system thermodynamic analysis, modeling and modeling methods, testing, and test data matching to calibrate cycle models on both a steady-state and transient basis. This also includes assessing, trending and troubleshooting product engine health in factory as new, in overhaul shops and in service.
Job Description
- Serve as a recognized technical expert in Engine Performance, especially for military engine architectures, and provides consultation to management, systems integration leaders, design organizations, and customers.
- Remain cognizant of state-of-the-art in propulsion system architectures and thermodynamic design methodologies.
- Provide technical leadership in design reviews, task force, industrial committees, and design boards.
- Work closely with the Chief Consulting Engineer for Performance and Operability.
- Provide technical consultation to assigned organization and to other internal and supplier engineering and manufacturing organizations
- Proactively drive technical excellence within the Performance discipline.
- Influence site and Performance discipline strategy, by identifying and recommending where improvements in knowledge are needed.
- Champion technical talent and capabilities by leading efforts to implement coaching, mentoring, and training strategies across the Performance discipline.
- Identify and actively recruit a diverse pipeline.
- Apply SQDC (Safety, Quality, Deliver, Cost) prioritization within leader standard work.
- Provide leadership to help focus and integrate new technology smoothly into production
- Suggest areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches / programs to pursue
- Lead / support study teams to address top problems within the organization or projects in focused technical areas
- Consult with and support the Chief Engineer’s Office in the execution of technical goals of the office
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- At least 8 additional years of experience in engine performance or related discipline
- Must have or obtain US Government Security Clearance at the Secret Level
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
- Awareness across all of and expertise in two or more of the following disciplines: steady state performance, transient performance, operability, engine cycle modeling, engine test, flight test, airframe/propulsion system integration, controls systems
- Deep domain experience in military engine architectures
- Experience leading programs across different engine architectures through product lifecycle
- Demonstrated experience leading or contributing to structured root cause investigations
- Prior experience of a successful engine certification or qualification test program
- Prior experience interacting directly with DoD customers
- Contributes to standard work development (Design Practices, Design Process Templates, etc.)
- Skilled at teaching technical courses
- Champion and practitioner of lean enterprise fundamentals
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Leadership to pursue correct engineering process in adverse conditions
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization
