Our core business is to develop safe, innovative and effective drugs using cutting edge technologies for manufacturing process (Drug Substance and Drug Product), clinical supply, formulation, device, packaging, and analytical development.
As an integrated partner within the drug development ecosystem, Global Biologics Pharmaceutical Development is dedicated to effectively developing innovative and patient-centered parenteral drug products including Formulation Development and Drug Delivery Systems
The Opportunity
The Drug Delivery team in Global Pharmaceutical Development (PTD) plays a key role in developing drug delivery technologies to benefit patients by easing use, reducing treatment burden, improving clinical outcomes, and enhancing the commercial competitiveness of our drugs.
Focus Areas:

Improving pharmacokinetics of intravitreally and subcutaneously administered drugs

Novel tissue-targeted delivery technologies

Protein engineering for improved pharmaceutical properties

Advanced formulation technologies to improve solubility and bioavailability

Development of delivery vehicles for new modalities
This work is done in collaboration with g/pRED, Therapeutic Area Heads, Global Product Strategy, PTD Device Development, and Global Partnering to align research with the needs of the Research and Early Development and Pharma Development portfolios.
The Global Head of Drug Delivery leads a team of scientists in SSF and Basel, scouting novel delivery technologies and ensuring alignment with corporate partners. The role involves driving the technical evaluation and development of promising technologies through preclinical proof of concept studies, reviewed by scientific and portfolio governing bodies.
Primary Responsibilities

Build and Maintain a World-Class Team: Recruit and develop a team of scientists/engineers to evaluate, customize, and develop delivery technologies for global market distribution.

Foster Alliances: Establish and maintain collaborations with internal and external partners, including technology developers, academic institutions, and industry leaders.

Drive Innovation and Technology Development: Integrate new drug delivery technologies into the clinical development portfolio, advise on experimental results, present findings, and oversee publications.
Who you are
Education/Qualifications/Experience

A Ph.D. in relevant scientific or engineering disciplines is preferred, though all candidates with commensurate experience will be considered.

At least 10 years of experience in biopharmaceutical industry with focus on and externsive experience with drug delivery technologies.Recognized as a scientific authority and thought leader in drug delivery technologies, with a proven track record of driving innovation and delivering successful programs

Consistent record of effective collaboration across various corporate divisions, e.g., scientific, medical, technical, commercial/business-development, portfolio management.

Consistent record driving research programs into the clinical development portfolio

Strong business sense, with the ability to proactively identify and resolve issues with internal and external collaborators
