The Position
In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED ), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
360 Labs Initiative at a Glance
The 360 Labs are a new capability that is currently being built up within the Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED ). The primary mission of this effort is to provide greater access and support for the use of cutting-edge biomedical research technologies by scientists across our discovery portfolio.
Operating as an integrated ecosystem, the 360 Lab environment will deliver core scientific technologies, expertise and enabling activities, as well as facilitate knowledge sharing and learning experiences in close collaboration with our therapeutic areas and functions. Together, these efforts will serve to increase the speed, enhance the robustness and improve the sustainability of our exploratory research and early discovery activities.
We are currently recruiting scientific professionals with varied backgrounds in Flow Cytometry, Genomics, Proteomics, Histopathology and Microscopy / Imaging. In these new roles, your collaborative mindset is as valued as your scientific expertise. The 360 Labs are by nature a hands-on, interactive workplace where face to face presence in our labs is a priority. Our ambition is to bring to life a thriving workplace environment, acting as an highly integrated ecosystem, supporting research and development, working collaboratively, and focused on fostering excellence and sustainability.
Job Mission and Impact
The Proteomics Core Technology Platform in the 360 Labs Initiative is seeking to add to its team one lab-based scientific professional, with a focus on LC-MS based chemical proteomics and the application of activity-based protein profiling (ABPP) technologies to covalent drug discovery. The successful candidates will have a strong background in chemical biology and biochemistry as well as a high proficiency in leveraging LC-MS technologies to generate scientific insights through the development and application of investigative proteomics studies. You will work as a part of a matrix team, collaborate closely with experts from each of our therapeutic disease areas and functions and participate in the early implementation and growth of the Proteomics Core Technology Platform within the pRED organization.
Your Role and Responsibilities
-
Plan, design and execute hands-on, with little to no oversight, experiments to develop, optimize and implement either standard or custom ABPP / LC-MS based chemoproteomics workflows (including sample preparation, nano LC-MS/MS measurement using high-end mass spectrometry instrumentation, and data QC and processing). Work closely with other laboratory and bioinformatic teams across the pRED organization to optimize and analyze newly implemented and / or developed proteomics protocols.
-
Be accountable for delivering high-quality proteomics data, including preparation of reports, presentation and discussion of detailed data analysis with stakeholders. Collaborate with other laboratory and bioinformatic teams across pRED to optimize newly implemented and / or developed proteomics protocols.
-
Embrace a continuous learning mindset by actively engaging with the scientific literature to stay abreast of emergent technologies/approaches in the proteomics field.
Your Profile
-
A BS degree or MS degree in Chemical Biology, Biochemistry or related field, with respectively 6-8 or 4-6 yrs research experience in chemoproteomics is required. A PhD degree with 3-5 yrs postdoctoral and/or pharmaceutical R&D experience) is highly desired.
-
A skilled experimentalist with the aptitude to design complex studies including hands-on expertise in nano liquid chromatography mass spectrometry-based proteomics, along with a strong proficiency in the operation of Orbitrap (Exploris, Tribrids, and/or Q Exactives) and ion mobility (timsTOF, FAIMS) systems.
-
An in-depth knowledge of activity-based probes and their application to the identification of protein targets and ligandable / hotspot residues within targets of interest, peptide mapping to identify covalently modified residues, as well as target engagement & selectivity profiling,
-
Additional competencies in (i) sample preparation methods for various quantitative approaches (e.g., label-free, TMT, SILAC), (ii) acquisition strategies such as data-independant and -dependant acquisition (DIA, DDA), (iii) targeted approaches such as parallel reaction monitoring (PRM), along with (iv) an established familiarity with the databases, software tools and data visualization approaches commonly used in the processing, storage and interpretation of chemoproteomics data.
In addition to your scientific expertise and critical technical skills we are looking for candidates who are:
-
Curious with a growth mindset, resourceful and flexible in problem solving, have excellent organizational skills, and can think outside the box and have a demonstrated ability to implement new ideas in a fast-paced research environment;
