Responsibilities
Main responsibilities are the Continuous improvement of DPEM (Drug Product External Manufacturing) aiming at enabling Operational Excellence including evolution of business processes through simplification, standardization and digitalization. Also the role will have the responsibility to develop and influence strategies related to Drug Product External Manufacturing and will enable innovation and an outside-in perspective on manufacturing best practices through external focus.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
Continuous improvement and Operational Excellence:
- Develop and implement operational excellence strategies to improve external manufacturing processes, increase organizational effectiveness and efficiency, and maximize value
- Establish an operational excellence roadmap for external manufacturing
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence across the organization
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements and best practices in external manufacturing
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma methodologies to enhance overall external manufacturing performance
- Establish enhanced dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track performance in all key dimensions
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress on key objectives
- Work through DPEM governance bodies to identify areas for improvement and track actions implementation
- Ensure that business processes and procedures are up to date, aligned with Manufacturing Standards of Excellence (MSOEs), and reflect standardized and optimized processes
External Manufacturing Strategy:
- Develop and drive the DPEM strategic plan
- Drive innovation to ensure DPEM can achieve its intended mission during a period of significant growth
- Actively manage the evolution of the DPEM oversight model in collaboration with the DPEM functional leaders to maximize its effectiveness and efficiency
- Develop external contract manufacturer portfolio strategies to ensure alignment with company long term goals and objectives
- Function as the primary interface with the Procurement and Manufacturing strategy teams to influence the CM selection process and sourcing recommendations
- Collaborate with the Lead Team to develop and implement strategies that enhance the overall performance of the external manufacturing operations in line with company goals and objectives
- Enable external focus and bring in the external perspective
- Proactively engage in industry forums and develop external networks with pharma companies and consultants to monitor industry trends
- Stay up to date on industry trends, best practices, and competitive benchmarks
- Research and implement new methodologies that can further enhance operational efficiency
Digitalization:
- Develop and drive the digitalization and automation strategy for DPEM in collaboration with Tech at Lilly
- Collaborate with DPEM leadership to identify opportunities for the digitalization and automation of DPEM internal and external processes
- Establish a digitalization roadmap for external manufacturing based on pre-established criteria
- Integrate the DPEM business plan, strategic plan, and strategy & ops plan to ensure plans are implemented in a timely manner and initiatives are resourced appropriately
- Collaborate with external partners and TEch@Lilly on digitalization efforts
- Define digitalization opportunities related to any business or physical process including, but not limited to, orders management, documentation management, and process monitoring
- Define plans for the automation of routine information flow between Lilly and Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs)
- Influence the digitalization journey of the external manufacturing processes and interfaces with CMOs through external industry forums
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Serve as a core member of the DPEM Lead Team
- Lead and manage the DPEM Continuous Improvement team
- Train, coach and mentor DPEM leaders to enable a strong organizational culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
- Prepare and present reports on operational performance and improvement initiatives to senior management
- Proactively and periodically prepare reports on best practices, using external benchmarks, to enable internal replication as appropriate
- Establish and manage an internal prioritization process
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM or business administration field
- 10+ years in Drug Products Making Medicines
- Strong leadership and relationship skills
- Ability to identify process improvement opportunities
- Strategic and analytical mindset
- Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Dynamic thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Good coaching and mentoring skills
Additional Skills/ Preferences
- Experience working at a manufacturing site
- Experience as a Lead Team member of an external manufacturing team MBA
- Experience managing CMOs
- Experience in Operational Excellence Programs
- Experience in Manufacturing Strategy
- External network in pharma industry
- Candidates should be open to relocation,
- Thorough technical understanding of the quality systems and regulatory requirements,
- Experience in root cause analysis, and
- Black Belt experience preferred.
