SIAF Schweizer Institut für Allergie- und Asthmaforschung

The Swiss Institute for Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF), founded in 1988 by the Medical Department of the Swiss Research Institute for High Mountain Climate and Medicine Davos (SFI), aims to improve the understanding of allergies and asthma through its research. The aim is to develop treatments that will improve the future of those affected. The SIAF has been affiliated with the University of Zurich since 1996 and has been a member of the Life Science Zurich Graduate School, a joint educational project of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, since 2008. This affiliation enables the SIAF to offer comprehensive PhD training. In addition, the SIAF is an active member of the Academia Raetica and the Graduate School of the Canton of Graubünden, and research at the SIAF is based on direct collaboration with clinics in Davos, the University of Zurich and other specialized institutes. The institute focuses on patient-relevant, translational research and the investigation of the immunological basis of allergic and asthmatic diseases, which offers insights into new preventive and curative treatments that benefit those affected. In addition, the SIAF is involved in the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) and the World Allergy Organization (WAO), and also collaborates closely with Stanford University (Sean Parker Asthma and Allergy Center) and Harvard University (T.H. Chan School of Public Health). A large number of bioinformaticians are currently working at the Institute. Artificial intelligence/machine learning projects are being continuously developed.
