We believe that inclusion is key to understanding people’s varied healthcare needs. Together, we embrace individuality and share a passion for exceptional care. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

At Roche, we believe it is urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives, and we are fearless in both making decisions and taking action. And we believe that good business means a better world. That is why we come to work each day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigor, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.

Your department

Within Roche Pharma Research & Early Development (pRED), the ADME chapter is responsible for the prediction of the effect of newly developed medicines on the human body. We are particularly interested in determining the key mechanisms of drug distribution and disposition in terms of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME). One of our focus areas is determining which enzymes are principally responsible for the metabolism of drugs in development and how to mitigate the risk of potential drug-drug interactions. We thereby support the research and clinical development of new drugs and additionally work on the implementation of automation solutions to accelerate the LI and LO phases.

Job mission

As part of our team you will be working on the workflow and data automation of an established assay which is being developed on an automated pipetting robot.

Your impact

  • Working at the interface between Enzyme reaction phenotyping and Workflow Automation, you will help to digitize and automate an end-to-end workflow of a key assay

  • Specifically, your work will streamline and automate the process of estimating enzyme contributions to metabolic clearance

  • Your work will automate key steps of the workflow: Processing the request from our stakeholders, the execution of the assay on a robotic platform, analysis of results, data processing and visualization and uploading of the data in a FAIR manner

  • The digital infrastructure you will develop will lead to rapidly generated, reproducible and high quality data, which will fundamentally guide our drug development process

  • You will understand enzyme reaction phenotyping approaches, and the importance of the data for drug-drug interaction (DDI) risk assessment in drug discovery and development

Your profile

  • You have earned a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology or a related field within the past 12 months, or you are currently enrolled in a Master's program in Cellular and Molecular Biology, or a similar discipline.

  • You have significant programming experience and are familiar with data processing/visualization softwares

  • You have experience working with Python and enjoy solving challenges systematically by using your analytical and technical skills

  • You are highly technical and are excited by cutting edge technologies in the lab

  • Ideally, you would like to get some experience with lab automation

  • You are passionate about collaborating in a cross-functional team in a multicultural environment

  • You have a good command of spoken and written English

Please note that this internship does not accommodate thesis writing.

Your location

The internship (100%) will be located in the Roche Pharma Research Center in Basel.

Your application

Very pragmatic: Please upload your CV online. Within your standard CV, please add a section that highlights your relevant skill set (2-3 sentences), followed up by a few examples from your CV (bullet points) to support them.

Start: Ideally as soon as possible or upon your availability for a period of 6 months. Please indicate your ideal starting date on your application.

Due to regulations, Non-EU/non-EFTA citizens are required to submit a certificate of enrollment along with an official letter from their university confirming that the internship is a mandatory component of their studies. The letter also must specify the duration of the required internship.

We look forward to your application!
