As a Research Scientist in our R&D group within our LPD (Livestock, Poultry and Dairy) division you will perform a variety of scientific activities to support the development, maintenance, improvement and understanding of our products and reagent production processes. You will plan and perform experiments in the lab, analyze data and present results to (international) team colleagues.
Our ISO-certified subsidiary in Bern currently employs a total of 40 people in research and development, production, logistics, packaging, and marketing. In our small research and development department, we develop new immunodiagnostic tests and improve existing tests for our Livestock, Poultry and Dairy division.
In this role, you will:
- Perform scientific work leading to the development of commercial products for the Company.
- Perform a variety of scientific activities:
- Develop reagents and establish new test prototypes (Research phase)
- Transition products from the development (prototype) phase to the production phase and launch.
- Resolve issues related to recently launched, existing or in-development products (troubleshooting)
- Perform various tasks in the laboratory to support the development of new products and processes.
- Plan and design experiments, prepare materials, collect data, prepare and evaluate various analyses.
- Document experiments and other procedures within the laboratory.
- Develop and recommend new procedures and methods.
- Plan and participate in team activities.
- Independently order and manage materials and equipment.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues from R&D and other departments (e.g. Production, Technical Manufacturing, Marketing, Quality Control, Regulatory) to provide work support, exchange information and ensure efficient processes.
- Presents projects / data analysis at internal and external meetings (e.g. data reviews, project status updates, scientific seminars)
- Support product registration by drafting technical reports and data packages
- Actively strive to stay up-to-date on science and new technologies to support business objectives.
Minimum Qualifications and Required Skills:
- PhD (junior scientist) / or Master degree (with 5+ years post-master degree experience)
- Excellent laboratory skills as well as problem solving skills
- Experience in biochemistry, protein expression and purification
- Prior experience in an industrial lab setting and in following fields is an advantage: (veterinary) immunology/virology/bacteriology, cell culture, molecular biology, protein labeling and conjugation, ELISA technology and immunoassay development, biophysics
