Role Overview:   

Huntsman is looking for a highly talented and motivated Development Chemist to join our Technology and Innovation team within the Advanced Materials division. The position is a full-time contract at our Advanced Materials European Head Quarter in Basel, Switzerland.

As Development Chemist, you will join a collaborative department working on the development of innovative products and solutions in the field of coatings. You will work in a project team-based research environment. You will lead the development and the implementation of new coatings for PCBT applications, creating competitive advantages through your technical expertise and innovation.

Role Responsibilities:  

As a Development Chemist, you will: 

• Use scientific and technical understanding to transform customer requirement into innovative products, perform laboratory work and prepare tasks for laboratory technician.
• OTIF (on time in full) delivery of agreed projects and tasks - optimizing time spend by team on product development.
• Identifying new approaches / tools to improve development speed and lab productivity.
• Assist sales and business development functions in identifying prospects, conduct technical discovery, and provide assessment on probability of success. Leverage new technologies and new products to new customers, industry segments and markets.
• Ensure competition survey (patent, products, products testing).
• Conducting literature search and patent monitoring to understand industry and technology trends (chemistry - application – testing).
• Proactively looking for opportunities to gain IP and create commercial advantage (patent application).
• Maximizing the chances of success for projects by collaborating with other function: Attend Customer trials with Technical Support team, Accompany Scale-up of development products from lab to full scale manufacturing, Support marketing.
• Ensure full compliance with safety, health and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards.
   

Experience and Competencies:  

We are looking for experienced candidates with excellent communication skills and a solution focused approach. 

What we are looking for: 

• At least 7+ years in coating industry preferably with a proven track record in product development, preferred fields include UV curable coatings, acrylic and/or epoxy based, photochemistry, photolithography, stereolithography.
• MS or PhD in chemistry, polymer science or materials science.
• Good knowledge in coating technology and application processes, in photochemistry. Experience in Electronics and PCBT processing is a plus.
• Solid background in polymeric material science.
• Natural leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, self-driven and highly motivated.
• Accountable, reliable and efficient team player with excellent interpersonal, communication and project management skills associated with strong work ethics.
• Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills.
• Fluent oral and written English skills, other language is an asset.
