About the role

The Global Indirects Lead (GIL) provides global category leadership to maximize the value delivered through the category for all Business Groups across Amcor. The GIL owns the global Category Strategy for the parent category and related sub-categories to leverage economies of scale, influence and modify demand, manage suppliers, optimize processes and drive innovation. A TCO approach to optimize overall cost and efficiency to be developed and maintained. The GIL embeds the Category Strategy through effective management, best practice sharing and engagement of the global category Procurement community, business and functional stakeholders. The GIL performance manages the team and organizes to drive overall outperformance.

Key Job Accountabilities

Leadership and People Management

  • Lead, develop, motivate and assign people to appropriate tasks. Ensure career development and succession planning is in place for the procurement function
  • Ensure the right people are in the right place with the appropriate support to contribute to operating plan in order to deliver financial results in line with agreed budget
  • Build sustainable category specific capabilities within each BG to execute on the global category strategies
  • Responsible for the individual performance management process for all functional reports and aligning this with the operational manager
  • Model Amcor’s values in all internal and external dealings, exhibiting desired behaviours and approaches in all business activities
  • Functionally direct and provide input to the MIP and performance management and assessment of the Category Team members

Strategy Development and Strategy Implementation

  • Accountable for developing and implementing a cohesive, business-aligned long-term Category Strategy at both the category and sub-category level, including the optimisation of tax impacts
  • Accountable for the overall delivery of the category targets following the target setting process
  • Accountable for ensuring delivery against the Procurement Balanced Scorecard measures for the category
  • Accountable for consolidating supplier, market, category and internal business data and information to inform the Category Strategy
  • Accountable for developing and communicating Annual Category Plans for all areas of the category
  • Responsible for the communication of the final Category Strategy and Annual Category Plans to the relevant stakeholders
  • Responsible for the execution of the defined Category Plans and implementation for sourcing decisions
  • Accountable for ensuring the resources, information and tools are in place for project execution throughout the category
  • Accountable for performing the overall category supplier segmentation and identifying key supplier relationships, as defined in the Amcor Supplier Performance Management Framework
  • Responsible for defining and measuring relevant key performance indicators for key suppliers in the category, aligned to the Amcor Supplier Performance Management Framework
  • Accountable for leading innovation with strategic category suppliers
  • Accountable for ensuring robust contractual arrangements are in place for the category
  • Accountable for monitoring compliance and adherence to Amcor Procurement policies and procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring internal issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner
  • Provide input to Amcor’s acquisition strategies by completing the due diligence and integration activities relevant to the category

Negotiation

  • Accountable for the management of strategic category supplier relationships as agreed in the supplier segmentation
  • Build strong relationships with key suppliers in order to negotiate more innovative and beneficial contractual agreements and service levels
  • Manage negotiation process, content and results. Lead the negotiation team to define the desired outcome of a negotiation

Relationship Management

  • Identify stakeholders; understand and interpret their current and future needs, and manage their expectations. Give advice and build long-term value partnerships with these stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with relevant departments to ensure understanding and compliance with key procurement strategies and policies

Financial Planning

  • Accountable for the bottom-up aggregation of all category data across Business Groups to inform the top-down target setting process
  • Responsible for reconciling “gaps” between the bottom-up and top-down targets, and identifying initiatives required to close any such disparities
  • Ensure that financial resource allocation is cost-effective and aligned with strategic and operational plans
  • Build an accurate forecast for category price movements
  • Provide periodic and ad hoc reports and forecasts on performance against plan

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred; in fields such as business administration, finance, supply chain or procurement. Strong preference for CIPS or similar professional qualification.
  • 10+ years of Procurement experience or 8+ years in management, e.g. of a plant or similar functions.
  • Significant leadership experience, solid experience leading and developing teams within a matrix organization and across geographies and cultures.
  • Extensive experience in commercial, change and category management, cross functional team management as well as senior level influencing.
  • Previous experience with/insights to assigned category – Indirects
  • Strategic ability to develop high impact sourcing strategies. Exhibits thought leadership
  • Strong negotiating skills. Thorough understanding of sales/marketing practices
