Introduction
UNIL is a leading international teaching and research institution, with over 5,000 employees and 17,000 students split between its Dorigny campus, CHUV and Epalinges. As an employer, UNIL encourages excellence, individual recognition and responsibility.
Presentation
The Department of Computational Biology invites applications for one postdoctoral position in population and comparative genomics. The overall aims of the project is to investigate the comparative and poplution genomics of clownfishes by developing new approach to link phenotypic traits with large scale genomic data.
Job information
Date of start: 01.04.2025
Duration of contract: 1 year with possibility of two renewals of 2 years
Employment rate: 100%
Workplace: University of Lausanne, Dorigny campus
The project aims at extending the full genome data that the group has acquired to study the evolution of the clownfishes. The goal is to better understand the mechanisms driving the evolution of this iconic group of coral reef fishes. During the project, the postdoctoral fellow will use extended data coming from populations of several clownfish species to link genomic signature of adaptation with extended phenotypic data based on color patterns and morphometrics.
Our research group has a longstanding research track in comparative genomics in clownfishes and has been developing new approaches to analyses phenotypic and genomic data. The position will fit in the on-going research effort to characterize the genomics of adaptation in clownfishes.
The position includes research activities and teaching duties, as well as administrative or technical tasks insofar as they pertain to the department’s teaching or research activities.
At least 50% of the regular working hours will be devoted to personal research work.
Your qualifications
The ideal candidate should be an autonomous researcher with enthusiasm for inter-disciplinary work, who will need to interact productively with evolutionary biologists, computer scientists and bioinformaticians. She/he should be willing to read the corresponding range of scientific literature and participate actively to the group and department activities. Candidates must have completed their PhD degrees or equivalent in a relevant field and must be fluent in English.
The requirements include a background in evolutionary biology and comparative or population genomics with experience, or at least knowledge, of bioinformatics. The candidate should have a deep interest in genomics and theoretical aspects of evolutionary biology. Previous experience with evolutionary biology and/or computational biology is also expected.
