Do you want to dive into the fast-growing industry of drones and get a rewarding experience in a dynamic start-up environment?
At Flyability, we believe that robots should be sent into hazardous places and dangerous situations instead of humans. To support our belief, we created Elios, the world’s first collision-tolerant flying robot that for the first time allows remote entry to complex and indoor spaces. With more than 100 employees, Flyability is the pioneer in the UAV indoor inspection industry. Joining Flyability is not just taking on a new job, it is seizing the opportunity to improve the life of millions of people and build the future of robotics.
To complete our creative and dynamic team in Lausanne, we are seeking a:
Robotics Engineer Intern - Contact Based Control (100%)
Starting date: as soon as possible
Your role:
In this role, you’ll be a key contributor to developing advanced control strategies for the Elios 3 drone, focusing on maintaining stability and controllability during contact-based operations. You will work alongside our engineering team to address the unique challenges of controlling drones as they make contact with the environment during measurement tasks. Your contributions will directly enhance the Elios 3’s capability to perform precise measurements even in complex and constrained environments.
What you will own:
- Control System Design: Develop and refine control algorithms to stabilize the Elios 3 during contact-based measurements, ensuring smooth and reliable performance when interacting with surfaces.
- External Wrench Estimation & Compensation: Analyze and implement methods to estimate and counteract external forces and torques that affect the drone’s stability, optimizing for varied operating conditions.
- Performance Evaluation: Conduct testing and iterative refinements of the control system to meet stability requirements, working with the team to validate the Elios 3's performance in demanding environments.
Your profile:
- You are currently pursuing a Master's degree in Engineering
- Experience in control system design and tuning for robotic platforms, ideally with some exposure to drones or mobile robots
- Proficiency in C++ and Python; Experience in ROS1/ROS2 and C is a plus
- Strong analytical skills and a hands-on approach to problem-solving
- Fluent in English; French or other languages are a plus
