What you do here
We are looking for a hands-on person, who has a strong background in financial accounting and VAT, and is adapting quickly to changing environments. As GTR/DIS Accountant you are responsible for the operational financial accounting for our Global Travel Retail and International Distributors business in SAP R3 (and in the future SAP S/4). Besides handling the daily accounting operations, this role works closely with the Accounting Lead on crucial global projects providing accounting, tax and VAT expertise acting as a key enabler for our growth ambitions. The GTR/DIS Accountant is part of our global Finance team, reporting to the Accounting Lead GTR/DIS and closely working with the central and regional finance teams.
As GTR/DIS Accountant you are responsible for the central day-to-day financial accounting operations for GTR and DIS, ensuring correct and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with IFRS. This responsibility is focused on the following key areas:
General Ledger:
- Post general ledger documents (e.g. accruals and deferrals, cash movements, system generated lease bookings, month-end closing) incl. control of general ledger accounts
- Post bank payment transactions incl. account reconciliation
- Perform intercompany reconciliations between company codes in the GTR/DIS area of responsibility
- Periodically update foreign currency rates in SAP and perform foreign currency runs
- Place foreign currency orders with Corporate Treasury and prepare reports
- Support in the preparation of statutory financial statements for the head office in Switzerland and local offices abroad and cooperation in external audits.
Accounts Payable:
- Posting vendor invoices and credit notes (vendor workflow SAP/OpenText)
- Create vendor payment runs incl. liquidity planning
- Monitor and resolve pending vendor invoices in collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders such as cost center manager, ordering party, goods recipient, etc.
- Maintain vendor master data (master data expert for accounts payable process)
Payroll and Expenses:
- Post payroll documents incl. control of general ledger accounts
- Coordination with external payroll service providers regarding the payment and posting of monthly wage payments
- Reconciliation of payroll sub-ledger reports with general ledger (or review of externally prepared reconciliations)
- Responsible for the recording of staff expenses and credit card statements
VAT and Tax:
- Support in the preparation of VAT filings in Switzerland and abroad and carrying out sales and input tax reconciliations, assist in VAT audits (in cooperation with external VAT specialists)
Internal Controls (ICS):
- Monitor work processes in the general ledger, accounts payable and payroll areas and update process and ICS documentation as required
General:
- Support in project work related to financial accounting, tax and VAT
- Collaboration in SAP process and program adaptations, carrying out testing for SAP and SAP/Opentext updates
- Contract administration in the area of finances
When you fit in with us
- Proven experience (3+ years) with SAP R3 in an accounting department, preferably in a multinational organization applying IFRS
- Well versed user of SAP R3 with a broader understanding of the general SAP set up and its systems operations. Experience with SAP S/4 or SAP/Opentext would be an advantage
- Knowledge of Swiss VAT filing and reporting requirements
- Quality-conscious work approach with a high attention to detail
- Ability to work with different people and cultures in a global setting
- Willingness to go the extra mile in a supportive and dynamic business environment
- Risk and control affinity as well as strong work ethics
- Commercial Employee with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (Kauffrau/Kaufmann EFZ) or comparable education
- Further education as Chartered Specialist in Accounting and Financial Management (Fachfrau/Fachmann im Finanz- und Rechnungswesen)
- Excellent command of English and German, written and spoken
