The Position
The global Device and Packaging Development unit at F. Hoffmann-La Roche is responsible for the development of medical devices, combination products and packaging systems for R&D portfolio drug products. The department`s activities comprise a wide range of engineering disciplines ranging from the initial definition of product requirements to first commercialization and subsequent product care considering required regulatory, legislative, ecological, economical and technical aspects.
Within the department, the Section Verification Engineering is responsible for the generation and management of experimental and cGMP verification activities providing objective evidence that the medical device/combination products perform according to patient`s and technical expectations. Thereby, Verification Engineering supports the evaluation, selection, design, development, characterization, and industrialization of medical devices, combination products and packaging systems (e.g., pre-filled syringe, needle safety device, autoinjector, infusion pump, blisters, bottles, new & break-through & platform technology, special packaging).
As an intern, you will be part of the Verification Engineering Section. During your internship you will research and coordinate a significant project including

Technical assessment and implementation of new equipment

Assess parameters impacting primary packaging functionality

Perform tests including statistical evaluation to assess method comparability / capabilities (proof-of-concept study, Design of Experiment)

Develop test methods
-
Summary and presentation of results
-
Support practical testing for related projects

You will be assigned to mentors
You are an enrolled student at a university, university of applied sciences or equivalent pursuing a qualification in pharmaceutical sciences, physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science or similar subject.
Ideally, you have already gained first experience with measurement systems and their application in the development of medical devices, combination products or packaging systems.
Further requirements include:

Demonstrable practical knowledge of laboratory hands on work and developing test methods for a given application

Experience of working in pharma or other closely-regulated environment

Team player with strong oral and written communication skills

Very good command of spoken/written English, German skills are of advantage

Experience with numerical simulations of physical processes

Excellent documentation, presentation and interpersonal skills

Good user skills in standard office IT packages

Good knowledge of statistical techniques and scientific writing

Experience with cryogenic sample handling is beneficial
The internship will start as soon as possible, preferred 01. March 2025. Internship period is 9 months up to 12 months.
