Engineering Intern - 6 months

Overview

Voted one of the top 10 Swiss startups since 2019, we are constantly developing our products and growing our brand and customer base to achieve our ambitious company goals. We are currently looking for a motivated, curious, autonomous and innovative Engineering Intern.

Do you have a start-up mindset? Do you want to make a difference by helping make the world's manufacturing dramatically more sustainable, efficient and high-performance? If you do, we'd love to hear from you!

What is the role

As a key member of the Engineering team, reporting to the Technical Project Lead, you will help to further develop the future of composite manufacturing and support 9T’s mission to advance high-performance applications in a sustainable way.

Together with the Engineering and Process team, you will have the opportunity to work on our current customer projects and to be at the forefront of thermoplastic carbon fiber manufacturing. You will be involved in the design, simulation and prototyping processes of various customer and internal R&D projects.

Your mission

You will work closely together with our project leads and our Simulation team to support the creation of meaningful carbon fiber designs for customer projects and internal testing. You will make sure that the designed parts are produced to our specifications and meet our quality criteria.

After 1 month you will…

  • Know the company structure, values and goals.
  • Know our additive manufacturing solutions, our products’ capabilities and our target markets.
  • Know the relevant people within 9T Labs.
  • Be comfortable operating our design software.

After 3 months you will…
  • Be working closely together with the Engineering team, supporting customer projects by generating needed data or presentations.
  • Be able to work independently on our design software and iterate on composite designs with our engineers.
  • Give inputs on our process parameters and stability, and provide hands-on support with our daily prototyping.

After 6 months you will...
  • Provide input on how to improve our design software and design process.
  • Be able to pinpoint missing design rules and documents to facilitate composite design with our manufacturing solution.

What you need to bring to the role

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical or materials engineering.
  • You have some experience in 3D printing-related technologies or products (ideally FDM).
  • You know what thermoplastics are and what parameters can be influenced in their manufacturing process.
  • You are familiar with CAD design and feel comfortable working with CAD.
  • Ideally, you are familiar with Gcode.
  • You’ve had first touchpoints with composite design and are willing to deep-dive into this area.
  • You have experience working in fast-paced environments and in cross-functional and multinational project teams.
  • You enjoy providing detailed and precise feedback and understand the importance of documentation.
Language requirements:
  • Fluent in English (at least C1).

What leads to success

  • You are curious and passionate about composite design.
  • You have a pragmatic, constructive and results-oriented approach.
  • You understand the link between simulation results, field testings and design, and you are willing to iterate on this process.
  • You are analytical and structured, with a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility.
  • You are known for your precision, attention to detail, and persistence.
  • You are autonomous and self-driven, yet a team player, with a positive attitude, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit, you share our values, and you understand how start-ups work - which means you can balance speed, quality and output.

What we offer

  • A place where everyone cares about making an impact.
  • Being an integral part of a dynamic team with a “let’s do it” mentality, and being involved in all decisions and meetings.
  • Paid-time-off surrounding personal life changing events.
  • Flexible working time.
  • Events for exchange, learning, culture, sports and general fun.
We value equality of opportunity regardless of gender, age, race, nationality or any other type of non-professional classification. Also, if you don’t tick all the requirements and believe that you have what it takes to help us get to the next level and that we should meet, we strongly encourage you to apply and tell us more about what we should do together.
