As the Director of Data Engineering for the Marketing Automation and MarTech team, you will play a key leadership role in shaping and executing data strategies that drive customer engagement, campaign effectiveness, and marketing efficiency across the organization. Reporting to the head of the Digital Operations team, you will oversee data infrastructure, integration, and analytics operations, ensuring data quality, availability, and insights to enable effective marketing automation and personalized customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Strategy & Architecture:
- Develop and execute a scalable data engineering strategy to support marketing automation, personalization, and MarTech initiatives.
- Design and oversee data architecture, pipelines, and ETL processes to ensure high performance, data accuracy, and reliability.
- Ensure compliance with data governance policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements across all marketing data operations.
Integration & Data Flow Optimization:
- Lead efforts to integrate data across multiple marketing and sales platforms, including CRM, email, automation platforms, and analytics tools, such as Salesforce, Adobe Marketing Cloud, and Marketo.
- Collaborate with MarTech, analytics, and IT teams to enhance the data flow between marketing platforms, ensuring seamless data access and integration for campaigns and reporting.
- Optimize data pipeline performance and automate processes to improve speed, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, lead, and mentor a team of data engineers, ensuring that they have the skills and resources needed to succeed in a fast-paced environment.
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and proactive problem-solving within the team.
- Drive the hiring, onboarding, and professional development of data engineering talent to support team expansion and evolving business needs.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
- Partner with marketing, analytics, IT, and product teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions aligned with business goals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for data-related needs within the marketing department, providing clear communication and updates to leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Ensure alignment on data strategy and roadmaps with other technology and business leaders, especially in areas of customer data and personalization.
Data Analytics & Insights Enablement:
- Develop a robust data infrastructure to support analytics teams in generating insights and visualizations that enhance decision-making in marketing.
- Collaborate with analytics teams to standardize key metrics, KPIs, and dashboards, providing a unified view of marketing performance.
- Enable advanced analytics capabilities, such as predictive modeling and machine learning, to drive more precise targeting and personalization efforts.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with data engineering trends, MarTech advancements, and emerging technologies that can enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of marketing operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to refine data engineering processes and leverage new tools or frameworks that support automation and scalability.
- Lead or participate in data-related pilot projects, testing new solutions and capabilities that could enhance marketing automation and analytics.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; relevant certifications are a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in building and managing data architectures, pipelines, and integrations for MarTech and marketing automation environments.
- Deep knowledge of database systems, data modeling, and ETL/ELT processes.
- Proficiency with data integration and processing tools, such as SQL, Python, Apache Spark, and experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Strong understanding of marketing technology platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Adobe Marketing Cloud, Marketo, Eloqua) and CRM systems.
- Ability to communicate complex data concepts and engineering practices to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with machine learning, predictive analytics, and AI-driven personalization.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and best practices for data security.
- Background in customer data (CDP) or identity resolution platforms is a plus.
The total cash range for this position in Austin is $221,000.00 to $309,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $353,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
