The Institute of Tissue Medicine and Pathology at the University of Bern fulfills an important task in the field of diagnostic services for clinics and hospitals throughout the Canton of Bern. We employ around 220 people in diagnostics, research and teaching.
The Translational Research Unit (TRU) is a research platform (www.ngtma.com) that provides technical and scientific support for our pathologists, researchers and clinical partners. We offer tissue-based services to support translational projects performed on human and animal tissues. We also work with our certified partner biobank, Tissue Bank Bern (TBB), which provides access to patient material for research purposes (www.biobankbern.ch).
Your tasks
Tissue Bank Bern
- Registration and Management of Biobank Samples and Data
- Assist in the acquisition and handling of biological samples for research projects
- Perform tissue sectioning using a microtome and cryotome, ensuring quality and precision
- Communication with researchers and pathologists to organize sample collection and sample delivery
- Administration of biobank documents
- Devices cleaning and maintenance
- Consumables ordering
Translational Research Unit
- Support in selecting blocks and sections from the archive
- Support in preparing for dispatch
Requirements
- Technician / Science background (MUST be experienced in histology – previous experience as lab tech)
- English and German fluency (B2 or higher, written and spoken)
- Cryostat and FFPE cutting experience (demonstrable in CV experience)
- Microsoft Office (particularly Excel usage)
- Flexibility, sense of responsibility and precise working methods
- Motivation in career development (growing and learning)
- Ability to work in an organised manner
- Customer-oriented skill set (answering phone calls, and emails and interacting with clients and researchers)
- Strong communication skills
- Capacity to work independently as well as in a team
- Previous experience with biobanks (sample registry, etc) – is a plus, not a must
