Roche fosters diversity, equity and inclusion, representing the communities we serve. When dealing with healthcare on a global scale, diversity is an essential ingredient to success. We believe that inclusion is key to understanding people’s varied healthcare needs. Together, we embrace individuality and share a passion for exceptional care. Join Roche, where every voice matters.
The Position
At Roche, we believe it’s urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives, and we are fearless in both decision and action. And we believe that good business means a better world.
That is why we come to work every single day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigor, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.
The Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship (RPF) Program has the ambition to build and maintain the Scientific Leadership of the future and to provide leading Roche scientists with the opportunity to collaborate with talented postdoctoral researchers, and leading academic research groups, from around the world.
Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) translates extraordinary science into medical innovation through a diversity of technologies and talent located across seven research sites worldwide. We deliver on individual patient needs through a deep understanding of disease biology and the implementation of Personalized Healthcare strategies.
You will be part of a collaborative effort between the Pathology and Applied Safety Science (PASS)chapter, the Institute of Human Biology (IHB) and the Predictive Modelling chapter in Pharmaceutical Sciences, which support drug development in pRED. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will be focusing on the setup of experimental vascularized tissue models in order to evaluate pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PKPD) aspects of selected compounds and quantitatively understand the impact of microenvironmental changes on underlying processes. Whilst a large focus will be experimental and generating the relevant readouts from those assays is key, another aspect will be to couple those readouts to existing computational in silico models in order to enable more precise and informed model simulations when simulating the biodistribution of the compounds under various conditions.
Scientific Responsibilities/Duties
Your mission will be to:
-
Optimize and validate engineered vascularized tissue systems as models for PKPD studies
-
Design and conduct experiments in vascularized tissue systems to quantitatively address PKPD aspects of tested compounds
-
Use variations of the system to assess the impact of diverse microenvironmental parameters and (patho)physiological states
-
Perform high-quality quantitative analyses on the gathered readouts
-
Implement existing computational biodistribution models and use the outcomes from the experimental system in order to refine and parametrize those models
-
Generate high-quality results for peer-reviewed publications and present at scientific meetings
Requirements:
-
A PhD in a relevant field such as biology, pharmacology, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline
-
To be eligible for a Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship, you must be within the first four years of completing your PhD in a relevant field at the start of the project
-
The RPF project is initially set for a duration of two years, with the possibility of a third-year extension.
-
-
Experience with 3D cell culture models is required
-
Prior experience or a good understanding of tumor and/or vascular biology is desirable
-
Good understanding of basic quantitative data analysis
-
Prior experience with in silico modeling is a plus, but the motivation to learn the basics for the application in this project is a must
-
With respect to the two prior points, prior experience with applying relevant software (e.g. R, Python, Matlab/Simbiology,...) for data analysis is a plus
-
A basic understanding of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics in drug development is desirable
-
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
-
Publication record demonstrating independent and creative research
