What you'll do
Viasat is seeking our next Reliability Engineer! As a reliability engineer for Aviation and Antenna Systems (AS) business areas, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of our mobility terminals! You will interface with all engineering teams and management to craft in reliability during all phases of a product's lifecycle, starting from design to end-use. Some key responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the team of reliability engineers that support Aviation and Antenna (AS) business areas.
- Build and maintain a strong working relationship with Aviation/Antenna Systems personnel and program management.
- Recommend relevant reliability strategies for programs and products in Aviation/Antenna business areas.
- Support program management activities for proposal requests, scope of work and third party agreements related to reliability requirements.
The day-to-day
Have working knowledge and understanding of reliability methodologies to support programs. The methodologies include, but are not limited to:
- Reliability analysis and develop reliability models of systems
- Failure modes effects and criticality analysis, (FMECA), identify critical failure modes, (and other risks), and work with the project team to develop appropriate mitigation strategies
- Physics-of-failure, (PoF), based concepts and methodologies to proactively improve reliability
- Reliability testing
- Support root cause investigations of production and field failures and provide recommendations to improve reliability
- In-depth failure metrics tracking and reporting
- Communicate results and any reliability risks to program team and management Recommend and contribute to decision-making process
What you'll need
- 2+ years of reliability engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences
- Fundamental understanding of reliability concepts and experience in reliability analysis
- Strong communication and inter-personal skills with the ability to influence, lead and mentor teams
- US citizenship required
- Up to 10% travel
What will help you on the job
- A Master's degree or PhD in Reliability or related field
- Proficient in reliability block diagram analysis, reliability prediction methods, and FMECA
- Knowledge of RF, power, and digital electronics and mechanical systems
- Proven track record to drive detailed failure analysis activities to root cause swiftly
- Familiarity with Physics of Failure (PoF) concepts and application
- Ability to work with and influence design teams and leadership
- Candidates within a commutable distance to Duluth, GA preferred
Salary range
$119,000.00 - $161,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $140,500.00- $190,500.00/ annually
