Senior Software Engineer - Cloud & IoT

About the Team:

The LoRa Solutions Team is part of Semtech’s Cloud Engineering organization. Made up of seasoned industry professionals, the team drives innovation in the LoRa solutions space by developing cutting-edge cloud products. Our current focus is Smart Sensing — a new cloud service designed for large-scale LoRa-enabled sensor data management leveraging the Airvantage Platform.

Job Summary:

Are you proficient at designing, deploying and operating scalable distributed cloud applications but also enjoy tinkering with hardware? Do you easily build performant SQL queries for large databases and also have an appreciation for how wireless sensors communicate tiny messages over the air? Are you are just as intrigued by this intersection between IoT hardware and cloud technology? If so, we might just have the perfect opportunity for you!

We are seeking a backend-focused Senior Software Engineer to contribute to the design and implementation of new features as well as testing, maintenance and operations of our cloud services. You will extend the product with support for a growing catalogue of IoT devices and drive the definition and execution of test plans to ensure a high-quality standard. With your can-do attitude you work towards customer-focused solutions and ambitious goals in a dynamic and collaborative setting.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement and test platform features with a focus on new device integration (60%)
• Collaborate with the product team and testing team on the definition and execution of test plans (20%)
• Maintenance, operations, and support for the cloud services (20%)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields
• Extensive backend software development experience using Python
• A track record of building and deploying scalable, reliable, high-performance cloud applications using Kubernetes and AWS Services
• Strong system design skills (distributed systems, asynchronous programming, networking, databases, message queues)
• Experience with automation and deployment tools (Github Actions)
• Familiarity with embedded systems and wireless low power communication concepts
• Passion for quality and attention to detail
• Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to a constantly changing environment
• Fluent in English

Desired qualifications

• 5+ years prior experience in relevant field
• Prior experience with LoRa/LoRaWAN (RF technology, LoRaWAN L2 protocol, LoRa ecosystem)
• Prior experience with a Python web stack on asyncio, fastapi, Redis, PostgreSQL
