Position Overview
The Manufacturing Sciences Intern will support both design transfer and assay transfer activities, contributing to the advancement of nucleic acid detection methodologies and the implementation of new technologies. This role will focus on verification and validation studies to support diagnostic product development.
The position is intended to be a full-time internship opportunity, during Summer 2025, for an engineering or science undergraduate to obtain hands-on laboratory experience and exposure to design transfer processes that ensure seamless transition from development to manufacturing, while also assisting in assay transfer tasks such as adapting laboratory methods for consistent, high-quality performance.
This position is based in San Diego, CA.
Essential Duties
include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist in both design transfer and assay transfer activities.
- Assist with basic laboratory experiments.
- Assist with general laboratory duties.
- Assist with DNA extraction methods.
- Assist with nucleic acid amplification methods.
- Assist with library preparation methods.
- Assist with automation methods.
- Assist with other support duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
- Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
- Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
- Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, pipettes for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
- Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
- Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment towards a Bachelor’s degree in field of Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or a related Engineering field.
- Preference given to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.
- Basic proficiency in laboratory techniques such as pipetting, sample handling, and equipment use.
- Basic proficiency in computer skills such as internet navigation, e-mail usage, and word processing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel macros and pivot tables and Word mail merge.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior research and laboratory experience.
- Familiarity with NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) workflows, automation, or biological assay development is a plus.
Salary Range:
$37,000.00 - $59,000.00The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis.
