We are seeking two motivated PhD candidates for our experimental projects on novel precision mechanism-based electrophysiological therapies. With this project, we aim to gain insights into potential QT-normalizing and anti-arrhythmic effects of various peptide molecules known to activate repolarizing ion currents. The ultimate goal is to develop novel mechanisms-based, genotype-specific therapeutic options for the genetic channelopathy long QT syndrome.
Tasks
The PhD candidate will perform and analyze different electrophysiological experiments in vivo, and whole heart and
cellular cardiac electrophysiological and optical imaging experiments on perfused hearts and cardiomyocytes ex vivo.
Requirements
The ideal candidate:
- has a strong interest in cardiac electrophysiology and its clinical translation
- has keen interest and experience in experimental animal models
- is in the possession of an animal welfare certificate
- possesses at least basic knowledge in electrophysiological methods, optical techniques and molecular methods
We offer
- Challenging and diverse work in a motivated and dynamic team
- High degree of independence
- Use of the university sports facilities
- Attractive workplace close to Bern train station
The applicant should submit a CV (including contacts of two referees), diplomas, and a one-page motivation letter, highlighting her/his experiences in the above-mentioned points and indicating his/her motivation to join the project.
