Science communications specialist (60%)
The Remote Sensing of Water Systems (RSWS) group is an international research group at the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag). We are dedicated to advance the use of Earth Observation technology to study terrestrial and aquatic water systems. Our diverse activities include contributions to the development of future satellite missions, methodological developments, and the demonstration of applications related to surface water quality, ground water pollution, forest drought stress,
or water cycling.
We are searching for a highly motivated, creative, solution-oriented, and independent communications specialist who is interested in environmental sciences issues to increase the visibility and impact of our scientific work. Your main tasks will include
- Developing and coordinating our branding and communication strategy.
- Working with our scientists to create effective communication materials (e.g. media releases, science stories, videos) to make complex scientific content accessible for a wide audience.
- Coordinating and maintaining communication channels (e.g. website, social media).
- Developing and implementing tools to make our research results openly available (e.g. web-based dashboards and data access tools).
- Supporting and organizing internal exchange, research group meetings, and public outreach activities.
The ideal candidate must have a degree in communications, journalism, media studies, science, or a related field. Experience in science communication and an affinity for modern and interactive visual design is important. Experience in implementing web-based data sharing structures is a strong asset. Excelling writing and communication skills in English are mandatory, German language skills are an advantage. The ability to work in a team-oriented environment is important.

The successful candidate can start in February 2025 or as soon as possible upon agreement. The position is fully funded for an initial period of three years with the possibility for extension.
