To complete its team, the School of Criminal Justice (Ecole des Sciences Criminelles - ESC) of the Faculty of Law, Criminal Justice and Public Administration (FDCA) is looking for:
One assistant professor with conditional pre-tenure (tenure track) at the rank of associate professor (PAST PTC) or associate professor (PAS) in crime analysis and digital data
Information
Starting date: 01.02.2026 or to be agreed
Contract duration: For PAST PTC commitments: 2 years renewable 2 times. For PAS 6 years renewable
Activity rate: 80 -100%.
Place of work: Lausanne-Dorigny
Your responsibilities
You will be working at the School of Criminal Justice (ESC), which is the oldest institution offering a complete course in forensic science (Ba, MSc, PhD), combined with a 2nd and 3rd cycle program in criminology. The school adopts an integrated approach that brings together researchers who share a common role in developing knowledge aimed at protecting people, institutions, property and physical or digital environments from the current dangers associated with life in society and the threats that cause harm. From the diversity of the exchanges, there emerges a shared vision of the impact of criminal science research on the diagnosis and prevention of criminal problems, as well as the resilience of systems and the definition of policies and practices to fight crime and enhance security.
The specification includes the development of high-quality teaching aimed at strengthening and broadening the core areas of forensic and data analysis covered in the Bachelor of Forensic Science and ESC Masters degrees. In particular, you will develop teaching on the use of machine learning methods and data mining in forensic science.
You will develop research in the field of processing and exploiting trace data (machine learning - AI, data mining and visualisation) crime analysis purposes, as well as analysing digital investigation processes and practices (forensics, criminal intelligence and prevention). Your research can be integrated into both legal processes and security (incident response, anticipation, analysis and prevention).
As part of your work, you will be required to support and develop the ESC's casework service and continuing education courses in digital forensic science and crime analysis.
Your qualifications
With a doctorate in criminal science, forensic science or criminology or another equivalent academic qualification attesting to research into fundamental issues in criminal science, you have a talent for recognising and conceptualising the challenges posed by the digitalisation society, and possess the methodological and technical knowledge of crime data analysis, enabling you to:
• propose an integrated vision of your fields of research in criminal sciences,
• describe and explain impact of your research in the diagnosis and prevention of criminal problems, the resilience of systems and the definition of policies and practices relating to crime and safety,
• situate your methodological approaches in relation to School's identity based on epistemologies of the trace,
• contribute to academic teaching of the fundamentals of criminal sciences,
• develop specific courses that can be integrated into courses criminology and security, forensic science, criminal analysis and law,
• get involved in continuing education and/or expert witness activities in conjunction with professional circles, which together with academic research and teaching form the four pillars of the School of criminal justice.
What the position offers you
A pleasant working environment in a multicultural and diverse academic environment. A host of activities and other benefits to discover.
