The Position
A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.
In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED ), we make transformative medicines for patients to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicine. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
pRED CMI focuses on the discovery and early development of innovative treatments for specific diseases in the areas of Cardio-Metabolism and Immunology. In Discovery Nephrology, our goal is to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), particularly Diabetic Kidney Diseases (DKD).
The Opportunity
We are looking for a creative and experienced hands-on scientist to help bring new targets into the Nephrology portfolio and advance them to the clinic. You will coordinate and direct laboratory investigations to identify and evaluate new drug candidates by combining in vitro and in vivo models recreating metabolic and immunological dysfunctions of DKD/CKD.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary group of scientists and clinicians working in a matrix environment, committed to delivering innovative solutions for patients by combining innovative approaches in biology, pharmacology and translational research.
Your responsibilities:
-
You collaboratively design, conduct and interpret complex preclinical experimental studies for the validation and characterization of targets or therapeutic agents in the area of diabetic and chronic kidney diseases (DKD/CKD).
-
You assemble and integrate multi-omics datasets in close collaboration with system biologists to generate therapeutic hypotheses that are experimentally testable, druggable and clinically developable.
-
You concurrently perform multiple studies, work within a matrix research environment to coordinate with project leaders and other functions, and manage experimental design and results of research associates.
-
You analyze data using appropriate statistical methods and present data in a professional format suitable for internal meetings and external publications.
-
You are a champion of innovative initiatives in translational research relevant to the CMI portfolio.
Who you are
-
You bring a PhD degree in cellular/molecular biology, pharmacology, or a closely related field with 3 to 5 years of postdoctoral experience. Experience in drug discovery and early development in a biopharmaceutical setting is beneficial.
-
You have a background in the pathobiology of the kidney and/or metabolic tissues such as adipose and liver. Having a good understanding of metabolic, endocrine and immunological regulation is a plus.
-
You have hands-on experience with in vitro models of renal and/or metabolic tissue function/dysfunction, such as primary cells and iPSC-derived cells and organoids and a strong motivation to implement advanced model systems in collaboration with bioengineers.
-
You can analyze and integrate omics datasets (together with system biologists). You bring technical skills such as high-resolution imaging and FACS-based phenotyping, gene editing, gene expression, pathways and secretome analyses.
-
You are able to convey information clearly and present scientific data to colleagues, teams, and at external meetings.
-
You have significant scientific achievements and successful collaborations evidenced by publications in high-impact journals or noteworthy contributions, combined with a curious, independent mindset that encourages teamwork.
Unwavering focus, collaborative teamwork and exceptional delivery are key behaviours that drive our mission of doing now what patients need next. Together, we can be transformative.
If you are passionate about contributing to a committed team and have the dedication to partnership and innovation, Roche is the place for you! Every role at Roche plays a part in making a difference in patients’ lives.
Apply now and join us in making an impact!
