2-Year PostDoc in environmental health (m/f/d)
This position is to carry out operational environmental health research on the public health impacts and climate resilience of water and sanitation infrastructure in low-resource settings.
The exact scope of work will be adapted depending on interests and expertise of the selected applicant, and may include: (i) quantitative health impact assessment and analysis of existing data related to water infrastructure improvements in a cholera-endemic area; (ii) assessment of water and/or sanitation infrastructure resilience in humanitarian settings and in the context of climate change, including methods development; (iii) policy-relevant literature reviews related to infectious disease prevention and control (e.g. cholera, antimicrobial resistance).
The position will be based at Sandec, Eawag in Dübendorf. The start date is flexible, from July 2025.
Responsibilities
- Development of mixed-methods research protocols, including data analysis plans
- Collection, management and/or analysis of quantitative datasets (e.g. household surveys, clinical surveillance, environmental sampling)
- Conduct of relevant secondary research (e.g. scoping review of the scientific literature or guide-lines)
- Preparation of scientific publications, reports, policy briefs, etc.
- Engagement with relevant stakeholders
- Collaboration with a new, growing research team
Requirements
- A PhD in public health, environmental health, environmental engineering, or a related field
- Relevant research experiences related to water and sanitation, infectious diseases, and/or climate change
- Demonstrated quantitative data analysis skills (e.g. knowledge of STATA, R) and strong understanding of quantitative epidemiological research methods; GIS experience is an asset
- International work experience in low-income countries and/or humanitarian settings
- Willingness to travel, including to high-risk humanitarian settings (up to approx. 20% of the time)
- Good writing skills and experience in manuscript preparation
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English, other languages are an asset
