The research of the Medová group at the Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR), University of Bern, Inselspital focuses on aspects related to signaling crosstalk between the MET receptor and cellular DNA damage responsse machinery. We invite applications for PhD. student position available within a research project “Adaptive Mechanisms of Receptor Tyrosine Kinases in Brain Development”. This research is a collaboration with the Clinical Neuroscience Bern (Prof. Dr. A. Adamantidis) and the groups of Prof. Pat Levitt and Dr. Kathie Eagleson (Childrens' Hospital of Los Angeles).
Tasks
Recently, we characterized a previously unreported phosphorylation on the oncogenic MET receptor (PMID:37188738). MET activation is also essential in neurodevelopment, yet there are significant knowledge gaps in understanding the relationship between the receptor phosphorylations and the intracellular pathways orchestrating diverse neurodevelopmental processes and, ultimately, brain functions.
In this collaborative project, we employ a multidisciplinary strategy that combines expertise in MET signaling and fundamental neurodevelopmental processes to determine how posttranslational modification of the MET receptor regulates its activity and cellular and functional phenotypes. The successful candidate will use the previously generated mouse models, proteomic techniques ((phospho-)proteomic, mass cytometry), and cellular and molecular biology-based assays for these investigations.
Requirements
We are searching for highly motivated, independent, and committed candidates with previous experience in experimental animal work and updated methods of molecular and cellular biology. Proven experience with bioinformatics tools, flow/mass cytometry, confocal microscopy as well as genome-editing approaches will serve as an advantage. Applicants should hold a Swiss or an equivalent Diploma/MSc degree in medicine, molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or pharmacology. Applicants must have the academic credentials for registration to the Graduate School of the University of Bern.
