The Anglican Church of St Andrew’s is part of the Archdeaconry of Switzerland within the Church of England Diocese in Europe, which has its headquarters in London. The Association of the Anglican Church in Zurich is constituted as a “Verein” under Swiss law and as an employer it is represented by two voluntary churchwardens. Its parish covers much of northeastern Switzerland; the nearest neighbouring chaplaincies are in Basel and Berne.

St Andrew’s provides a multi-cultural environment and is physically situated in Zurich, but has daughter communities in St Gallen, Turgi and Zug.

The Church Administrator is a part-time employee of the Association (50% PTE), together with an Assistant Administrator (who is also the Bookkeeper and a part-time employee) and the Caretaker. He / she performs a variety of activities which include, but are not limited to:

  • manages the work of the church office and its personnel and, at times, groups of volunteers, including letting of facilities to internal and external groups
  • acts as PA to the Chaplain and supports the voluntary officers (churchwardens, treasurer, Safeguarding Officer, Environmental Officer, secretary of the Chaplaincy Church Council, …) 
  • oversees the resources, operations and security of the church, in consultation with other staff members
  • handles the day-to-day organisational and statutory requirements of the church in such a way that the church functions safely, legally and efficiently
  • acts as a communications hub (Email, web, print), in conjunction with the website administrator where appropriate; this includes dealing with phone calls and e-mails in English, German or Swiss German
  • maintains a confidential database of church members in accordance with GDPR
  • coordinates and arranges appointments, reviews documentation and contracts with external contractors, authorities and a property management company 
  • is the initial point of contact for outsiders
  • provides support for regular church services and special events e.g. Annual Bazaar
  • coordinates the Annual General Meeting of the Association (which takes place on a Sunday) and acts as electoral roll officer 
  • controls petty cash and is a bank account signatory 
  • acts as an on-site trouble shooter for maintenance and equipment issues, including regular walks around the property, and oversees maintenance contracts
  • is responsible for ensuring adequate office and household supplies are held in reserve, both in the office and in the church, in line with the church’s evolving environmental policy
  • may be called on to offer appropriate compassionate ministry to vulnerable persons and homeless visitors within the church’s safeguarding guidelines.
