The Jenal Lab at the Biozentrum is seeking a highly motivated and skilled laboratory technician with expertise in cell culture to join our team. This 80%-100% position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in lung infections and antibiotic discovery.

About the Biozentrum
How does life emerge from molecules and cells? This is the central question that motivates us. With curiosity and passion, we investigate the entire spectrum ranging from the atom to the organism. The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the world’s leading life sciences institutes. With 31 groups and 500 employees, we are a dynamic and international research community that has spawned many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine as well as several Nobel Laureates. Become part of our community!

About the Jenal Lab
Our research is embedded in the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) AntiResist and focuses on understanding lung infections in humans caused by opportunistic pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa. We develop novel infection models to foster antibiotic discovery. For this, we utilize state-of-the-art human organoid technology to mimic human lung infections. We conduct a wide range of assays (cellular and molecular microbiology, advanced microscopy, omics etc.) to reach a detailed understanding of human lung infections, host response and drug treatment.

Your position

  • Lung Organoid Culture Management (50%): Maintain and manage lung organoid cultures (transwell model).
  • Cell Culture Lab Organization (25%): Oversee the organization and maintenance of the cell culture laboratory.
  • Experimental Support (25%): Perform in vitro experiments and imaging (histology, immunocytochemistry) and assist PhD candidates and postdocs in their research on bacterial infections and antibiotic activity.

Your profile

  • Education: Degree in biology (Bachelor’s/Master’s) or training as a lab assistant/technician.
  • Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in cell culture work. Experience in molecular biology and microscopy techniques is of advantage. Being familiar with organoids or stem cell technology is a plus.
  • Skills: Highly organized, excellent communication skills, ability to multitask, flexible, and eager to learn new techniques. Team-player with the capability to work independently. Enthusiasm for biological research is essential.
  • Language: Proficiency in English is required as it is the primary language in the laboratory and the Biozentrum.

We offer you
