Postdoctoral position in MALT1-dependent signaling

Introduction

UNIL is a leading international teaching and research institution, with over 5,000 employees and 17,000 students split between its Dorigny campus, CHUV and Epalinges. As an employer, UNIL encourages excellence, individual recognition and responsibility.

Presentation

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Margot Thome-Miazza in the Department of Immunobiology at the Epalinges campus of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. The Thome lab investigates the role of the protease MALT1 in signaling pathways triggered by antigen receptor engagement in B- and T cells. We have recently discovered that MALT1 also plays an evolutionarily conserved role in autophagy (Juilland et al., Autophagy Reports 2023). Our research is funded by the University of Lausanne and the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Job information

Expected start date in position : 01.01.2025 or to be defined

Contract length : 1 year, renewable 2 x 2 years, maximum 5 years

Activity rate : 100%

Workplace : Epalinges

Your responsibilities

We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral candidate interested in the study of MALT1- and autophagy- dependent signaling events. The candidate will develop a research project that explores the consequences of altered expression or function of MALT1 on autophagy, using in vitro and in vivo approaches (making use of cell lines and C. elegans). The applicant is expected to work together with other team members in a highly collaborative manner and to participate as an assistant in a small number of teaching activities.

Your qualifications

The successful applicant must have a PhD in biological sciences and a strong background in biochemistry, combined with an interest in cellular signaling pathways. Candidates should have technical knowledge in protein biochemistry, cell biology and molecular cloning. Experience in autophagy and/or working with C.elegans is of advantage. We will consider only candidates with documented experience, having published at least one high quality publication and demonstrated creative and critical thinking. We are seeking candidates who are highly motivated, well organized, and self-driven, able to work both independently and as a team player. Communication skills in English are essential, knowledge of French is of advantage.

What the position offers you

We offer a nice working place in a multicultural, diverse and dynamic academic environment. Opportunities for professional training, a lot of activities and other benefits to discover.
